Küçük ölçekli tarım işletmelerinde sulama geliştirme potansiyeli ve sürdürülebilirliği: Konobo-Liberya örneği

Abstract

Kırsal alanda gıda güvenliğini sağlamak için sulama ile tarımda verimi artırmak ve sürekli kılabilmek esastır. Bu çalışma, Liberya’da küçük ölçekli tarım işletmelerinde sulama gelişimini ve bitkisel üretimi doğrudan etkileyen etmenleri incelemektedir. Çalışmada, sektör konusunda bilgi sahibi olan veya sektörden anahtar kişilerle yapılan görüşmeler ve odak grup tartışmalarından elde edilen birincil kaynaklar kullanılmıştır. Çalışma için; Liberya'nın Grand Gedeh iline bağlı, Konobo yerleşkesindeki sulama kullanıcısı olan ve olmayan çiftçiler seçilmiştir. Bu yerleşkeden (90) çiftçi örnek olarak alınmıştır. Verileri analiz etmek için; tanımlayıcı ve ekonometrik analiz yapabilen STATA 14 paket programı kullanılmıştır. Çiftçilerin bakış açıları ölçebilmek için SPSS 25 istatistik paket programında test uygulanmıştır. Çalışmadan elde edilen sosyo ekonomik sonuçlar; cinsiyet, aile büyüklüğü, ikamet yılı, sulama teknolojisine erişim ve sulama deneyiminin sulama gelişimi için önemli etkenler olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Çalışma aynı zamanda, araştırmaya konu olan alanda önemli bir sulama potansiyelinin olduğunu, küçük ölçekli sulama uygulamaları olduğunu, ancak bunların yetersiz düzeyde kaldığında gözler önüne sermiştir.

The development and sustenance of agriculture productivity through irrigation is essential for addressing food insecurities in rural communities. The study evaluates the potential and sustainability of small-scale irrigation development among farmers. The specific objectives of the study are to analyze factors that influence small-scale irrigation development, perception and challenges faced by farmers in developing and sustaining irrigation development in the area factors that affect production and the current state of production in Konobo District (Ziah and Taylor farming groups), Grand Gedeh County, Liberia. The study used primary data that was collected through interview and focus group discussions among key informants. Irrigation users and non-users from Konobo District in Grand Gedeh, Liberia were selected. Ninty (90) farmers from the two towns were used as sample size. Both descriptive and econometric data analysis from STATA 14 was used to measure the outcome. The mean for the variable was measured using Independent Sample T-test in SPSS 25. The results revealed that sex, size of the family, years of residence, access to irrigation technology and irrigation experience were important aspect for irrigation development.
