Abstract

In this paper, gamma radiation shielding properties of same glass ceramics are reported for 356, 662, 1173, and 1330 keV gamma energies. Firstly, the validity of the FLUKA method was determined using the (90-x)TeO2-xMoO(3)-10ZnO glass system whose shielding parameters were determined by different analytical methods in the literature. The mass attenuation coefficients (mu(m)), half-value layer, and mean free path parameters for the glass ceramic samples were calculated by the FLUKA. When the results obtained with the FLUKA and XCOM database were examined, it was found that glass f6, which is one of the PbO-Al2O3-SiO2-TiO2 glass-ceramic samples, had the highest gamma shielding property among the glass ceramics. Additionally, comparisons show that the FLUKA code is an alternative method to analytical methods for determining gamma shielding parameters and it is a tool that can provide preliminary information and comparisons for experimental studies.
