Aristoteles'in ontolojik modalite teorisi üzerine bir araştırma

Abstract

Bu tezde Aristoteles'in modalite teorisinin genel portresini sunmaya çalıştım. Felsefe tarihinin en zengin kavramlarından biri olan modalite Aristoteles'in metafiziğin altta yatan yönlendirici mekanizmalarını anlamak için özel bir önem taşımaktadır. İlk bölüme mantıksal imkân kavramının bir açıklamasıyla başlıyorum ve modal kavramların epistemolojik ve ontolojik analizi arasında net bir ayrım yapıyorum. İkinci bölüm ontoloji ve metafizik bağlamında olanaklı ve edimsel varlığın iç yapısının tesis edilişine odaklanacak. Değişebilir tözlerden mutlak olarak zorunlu ve edimsel tözlere uzanan akıl yürütmelerin izini sürerek nedensellik ve zorunluluğa ilişkin görüşleri de değerlendireceğim. Üçüncü bölüm Aristoteles'in olanak ve edimsellik problemi ile ilgili görüşlerinin günümüzde geçerli olup olmadığına bakacak. Son olarak töz kavramından bütün sonlu varlıkların asıl kökeni olan tanrı düşüncesine geçişi tartışacağım.

In this thesis I will try to give an overall picture of the Aristotle's theory of modality. One of the richest concepts in the history of philosophy, modality, bears special importance to understand the underlying mechanism of Aristotle's metaphysics. In the first chapter I will start with the explanation of logical possibility and make a clear distinction between epistemological and ontological analysis of modality. Second chapter will focus on the inner construction of the potential and actual being in the context of ontology and metaphysics. Pointing out the line of reasoning from mutable substances to absolutely actual and necessary ones, I will also elucidate on the conception of necessity and causality. In the third chapter there will be an inquiry that attempts to answer the question whether Aristotle's view has still a relevance to the problem of possibility and actuality. Finally, I will discuss the development from the concept of substance to the infinite being of God, who is the real origin of finite beings.
