Abstract
The research was carried out to determine the effects of diets supplied 0, 50, 100 and 150 mg/kg ascorbic acid on fattening performance and slaughter characteristics of male American Bronze x Betina cross-bred turkeys stress conducted to intensive fattening under cold climate. The trial was carried out with 140 turkeys alloted to four groups for 84 days. The turkeys were fed adlibitum pelletted rations including 2900 kcal/kg ME and 14.90 % crude protein. The average initial liveweights of the groups were between 2.83 (min) and 2.85 (max) kg. Final weight and average daily liveweight gain of the groups were 7.61, 7.45, 7.39 and 7.52 kg ; 56.59, 53.53, 55.06 and 55.56 g respectively. Average daily feed consumption and feed conversion ratio of the groups were determined as ; 306.03, 298.36, 296.37 and 301.73 g and 5.407, 5.573, 5.372 and 5.430 kg respectively. It has been determined that ascorbic acid didn't effect the daily liveweight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio, the slaughter and carcass weights and the abdominal fat content of the turkeys.. Edible organ weights of the groups have been measured as 325.5, 323.5, 295.7 and 336.5 g respectively. The differences among the groups 3 and 4, 1 and 3, 2 and 3 have been detected to be statistically significant p < 0.01). Edible organ ratio (%) in the carcas weights of the groups have been calculated as 5.74, 5.57, 5.14 and 5.84 respectively. The differences among the groups 4 and 2 (p<0.05), 1 and 3, 2 and 3, 4 and 3 ( p < 0.01 ) have been detected to be statistically significant.
