It is well known that nurses in healthcare settings must make quick and accurate decisions in a busy work schedule and limited time. Professional autonomy in nurses defines the ability to make decisions and act in accordance with professional knowledge. In this context, this study aimed to determine the relationship between nurses' professional autonomy and time management skills. This descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 380 nurses across Turkey. Data were collected using the "Personal Information Form," "Time Management Scale," and "Nurse Activity Scale" and an online survey between February 2024 and July 2025. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis, Fisher's Exact Chi-square, Pearson's Chi-square, Fisher-Freeman-Halton, and Bonferroni tests. The significance level was set at α=0.05. The mean score for the "Nurse Activity Scale" was 170.77, and the mean score for the "Time Management Scale" was 74.70. When the relationship between the two scales was examined, a weakly significant negative correlation was found between the "Nurse Activity Scale" and the "Time Management Scale" (r = -0.346, p < 0.001). It was determined that females were more likely to waste time compared to males (p < 0.001), those with postgraduate education had the lowest time management attitudes (p = 0.005), those with children had higher time management attitudes (p = 0.030), and nurses with administrative duties had increased autonomy scores (p = 0.004). The study concluded that nurses have a moderate level of professional autonomy and a low level of time management skills. It was determined that as nurses' professional autonomy increases, their time management skills decrease. While administrative duties or increased professional training increase autonomy, changing responsibilities appear to complicate time management. To enable nurses to manage their time and authority more effectively, it is recommended that their personal development be strengthened alongside increased autonomy.
