Publication Adsorption properties of polycarboxylate ether-based high range water reducing admixture on cementitious systems: A review(Elsevier, 2021-11-05) Karakuzu, Kemal; Kobya, Veysel; Mardani-Aghabağlou, Ali; Felekoğlu, Burak; Ramyar, Kambiz; Karakuzu, Kemal; Kobya, Veysel; MARDANİ, ALİ; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/İnşaat Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0002-1023-3962; 0000-0003-0326-5015; C-7860-2015; GBH-3020-2022; FEQ-9214-2022Adsorption of polycarboxylateether-based water-reducing admixtures (PCE) on the cement surface affects many properties of cementitious systems, especially fluidity. One of the most important parameters affecting the adsorption behavior of PCE is the anionic group properties. Therefore, understanding the anionic group properties of PCE is of great importance for cement-admixture compatibility. In this study, the effects of PCE's anionic group variation and cement properties on cement-admixture compatibility, especially adsorption, were reviewed based on the studies conducted in the literature. It was observed that phosphate and organo-silane substituted PCEs at certain rates have a positive influence on the fresh state properties of cementitious systems due to adsorption improvement and sulfate resistance. In addition, the fresh state properties of the cementitious system were negatively affected as the C3A content and the increment in fineness of the cement increased the admixture requirement. It was emphasized that the effect of pozzolan utilization on the adsorption properties of PCE in cementitious systems should be considered. Information was given about the properties of PCE recommended for use in the presence of pozzolan.Publication Advanced metaheuristic algorithms on solving multimodal functions: Experimental analyses and performance evaluations(Springer, 2021-12) Kuyu, Yiğit Çağatay; Vatansever, Fahri; KUYU, YİĞİT ÇAĞATAY; VATANSEVER, FAHRİ; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Elektrik Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0002-3885-8622; 0000-0002-7054-3102; AAC-6923-2021; AAG-8425-2021Optimization problems encountered in real-world have multiple local minimums. Multimodal functions can well represent many real-world applications as they include two or more local minimum points in nature. Numerous metaheuristic algorithms aim to find the best balance between exploration and exploitation, and better algorithms have been developed during the search for such a balance. Therefore, it becomes necessary to answer the question: Which metaheuristic algorithm is the best-suited algorithm among the metaheuristics that have been developed? This study presents a comprehensive and fair investigation of the seven metaheuristic algorithms developed in the last five years on twenty multimodal functions with a wide range of dimensions commonly used in literature. Each is subject to the same initial conditions but with three different performance criteria. The strengths and weaknesses of the each algorithm were demonstrated for each criterion and the experimental results were analyzed statistically by using the Friedman test. Furthermore, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to address these challenging problems, in combination with these algorithms and performance metrics, which can also give a further insight to the researchers for choosing appropriate algorithms in the context of global optimization.Publication Apomorphine in the treatment of parkinson's disease(Türk Nöroloji Derneği, 2021-12-01) Ozkan, Serhat; Elibol, Bulent; Ozkaynak, Sehur Sibel; Cakmur, Raif; Akbostanci, Muhittin Cenk; Hanagasi, Hasmet; Dogu, Okan; Erer, Sevda; ERER ÖZBEK, ÇİĞDEM SEVDA; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Nöroloji Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-2274-3230; G-9559-2014Apomorphine is a dopamine agonist used in the treatment of some motor and non-motor complications during Parkinson's disease, which could be administered as an intermittent or continuous infusion. Although apomorphine treatment has been shown to be effective on motor fluctuations and dyskinesias, there is no sufficient consensus regarding the administration of apomorphine test or infusion, and the management of the treatment. In this review, our aim is to create a "treatment management guideline," which includes recommendations for the use of apomorphine in the clinical practice, and to discuss the problems encountered in both intermittent and continuous infusion applications, in the light of the literature.Publication Bronchial carcinoid tumors with massive osseous metaplasia: A case report and review of the literature(Türk Patoloji Derneği, 2020-05-01) Özşen, Mine; Yalçınkaya, Ulviye; Akyıldız, Elif Ülker; Bayram, Ahmet Sami; Gökalp, Gökhan; YALÇINKAYA, ÜLVİYE; AKYILDIZ, ELİF ÜLKER; BAYRAM, AHMET SAMİ; GÖKALP, GÖKHAN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Cerrahi Patoloji Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Radyoloji Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-5771-7649; 0000-0003-0684-0900; JHY-9777-2023 ; AAI-2336-2021; ABB-7580-2020; AAH-8924-2021Bronchial carcinoid tumors are primary lung neoplasms thought to originate from neuroendocrine cells, i.e. Kulchitsky cells, in the bronchial mucosa, although the type of cellular origin has not been clearly understood. A 61-year-old male patient underwent surgery and microscopic examination of the specimen revealed an anastomosing trabecular bony structure among the nests of tumor cells with round nucleus, granular chromatin, and large eosinophilic cytoplasm. Our case has been deemed worthy of being presented as bronchial carcinoid tumor with exaggerated osseous metaplasia.Publication Coagulopathy and COVID-19(Kare Yayınevi, 2020-05-18) Yazıcı, Onur; Bozkuş, Fulsen; Demirci, Nilgün; Gülhan, Pınar Yıldız; Coşkun, Funda; COŞKUN, NECMİYE FUNDA; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0003-3604-8826; AAD-1271-2019Caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a potentially fatal disease as a global public health issue. Several mechanisms may be involved in mortality. One of these is coagulopathy and disseminated intravascular coagulation caused by SARS-CoV-2. When patients have coagulation disorders, treatment becomes more challenging and mortality rate increases accordingly. The aim of this article is to review the potential mechanisms of coagulopathy in COVID-19 in light of literature data.Publication Comparison of clinical, laboratory, and radiological characteristics between COVID-19, influenza, and adenovirus pneumonia: A narrative review(Galenos Yayıncılık, 2021-01-01) Önal, Uğur; Ursavaş, Ahmet; Akalın, Halis; ÖNAL, UĞUR; URSAVAŞ, AHMET; AKALIN, EMİN HALİS; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Enfeksiyon Hastalıkları ve Klinik Mikrobiyoloji Anabilim Dalı; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı; 0000-0001-6194-3254; 0000-0001-7530-1279; 0000-0001-6953-8499; ACQ-7832-2022; AAI-3169-2021; AAU-8952-2020; JCO-3678-2023The Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-2019) pandemic is a major global healthcare problem nowadays, and because of the high numbers of infected patients, it is vitally important to distinguish this from other types of viral pneumonia caused by influenza or adenovirus, which may have similar signs and symptoms. We conducted a narrative literature review and performed a PubMed and Scopus search for studies published up to November 18, 2020, using the following medical subject headings terms: ["comparison," "comparisons" AND "severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2," "ncov," "2019 ncov," "covid 19," "sars coy 2," "coronavirus," "coy" AND ("influenzas," "influenza," "influenzae," "human influenza" OR "adenoviridae," "adenovirus," "adenoviridae infections")]. This narrative review aims to compare pneumonia caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2, influenza, and adenovirus in terms of clinical, laboratory, and radiological characteristics. In conclusion, although these viral pneumonia clinics share the similar patterns of symptoms and laboratory findings; we believe that there have some distrinctions especially in radiological findings.Publication Coronavirus disease 2019 and antibiotic stewardship-antibiotic usage in adult patients: Is it necessary? When should it be concerned?(Galenos Publ House, 2021-01-30) Önal, Uğur; Akalın, Halis; ÖNAL, UĞUR; AKALIN, EMİN HALİS; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Enfeksiyon Hastalıkları ve Klinik Mikrobiyoloji Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0001-6194-3254; 0000-0001-7530-1279; JCO-3678-2023; AAU-8952-2020; ACQ-7832-2022Antibiotic consumption rates were quite high in number, although the bacterial coinfection rates were low in coronavirus disease 2019 pneumonia. Generally, empirical antibiotic treatment is not recommended for uncomplicated coronavirus disease 2019 mild to moderate pneumonia cases. On the other hand, antibiotic treatment and de-escalation are recommended for intubated intensive care unit patients or critical patients with sepsis, septic shock, or acute respiratory distress syndrome. The presentation of patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019 pneumonia can direct the clinicians to use antibiotics. We believe that wait and watch strategy can be preferred in such cases without sepsis, secondary bacterial infection findings, or procalcitonin < 0.5 ng/mL. We think that a new wave of resistance will occur inevitably if we cannot perform the antibiotic stewardship properly.Publication Correlation of femoral cartilage thickness and osteoporosis in female patients with knee osteoarthritis(Galenos Yayıncılık, 2021-08-01) Özövez, Gamze Altuğ; Alp, Alev; Özövez, Gamze Altuğ; ALP, ALEV; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Fiziksel Tıp ve Rehabilitasyon Anabilim Dalı; 0000-0002-3147-6357; 0000-0002-3904-5463; DML-7159-2022; EKZ-2544-2022Objective: To evaluate the relationship between ultrasonographic femoral cartilage thickness and presence of concomitant osteoporosis in a group of female patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA).Materials and Methods: This study included 118 women with knee OA who visited our outpatient clinic. Demographic data were collected, radiologic grading using Kellgren Lawrence (K-L) scale, ultrasonographic femoral cartilage thickness (FCT) evaluation, pain intensity evaluation, disability evaluation using OA index [Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis index (WOMAC)], quality of life measurement using Short Form-36 (SF-36) and bone density measurement using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) were conducted for each patient. Results: We found that 58 patients (median age: 64.5 years, range: 50-75) had osteoporosis (group 1) and 60 patients (median age: 62 years, range: 51-75) did not have osteporosis (group 2). Group 2 had higher body mass index (BMI) in addition to lower WOMAC, SF-36 physical function, physical role limitation, pain and social function scores. The severity of osteoporosis and K-L staging were negatively correlated. The DXA femoral neck and total lumbar T-scores were higher in the advanced stages of OA. FCT had no significant correlation with age, WOMAC index and SF-36 scores. Moreover, the left knee FCT was negatively correlated with BMI.Conclusion: Radiologic staging of OA had a negative correlation with osteoporosis but no significant correlation with the quantitative measurement of FCT using ultrasonography.Publication Covid-19 treatment at a glance(Aves, 2020-11-01) Arikan, Huseyin; Karadogan, Dilek; Akyil, Fatma Tokgoz; Yüksel, Aycan; Toreyin, Zehra Nur; Gürkan, Canan Gunduz; Marim, Feride; Eyuboglu, Tugba Şişmanlar; Emiralioglu, Nagehan; Gursoy, Tugba Ramasli; Serifoglu, Irem; Sandal, Abdulsamet; Oncel, Asli; Er, Berrin; Köse, Neslihan; Esendagli, Dorina; Hizal, Mina; Er, Aslihan Banu; ; Kaya, İlknur; Ozakinci, Hilal; Sertçelik, Umran Özden; Tuğlu, Hatice Çelik; ; Ataoğlu, Ozlem; Cakir, Ahu Cerit; Toptay, Huseyin; Ercelik, Merve; Develi, Elif; Çelik, Selman; Karakaş, Fatma Gülsüm; Yildirim, Halime; Güven, Damla Karadeniz; Çetin, Nazlı; Kucukyurt, Sumeyye Nur Aslan; Elverişli, Mehmet Fatih; Gülhan, Pinar Yildiz; Akgün, Metin; Özürk, Nilufer Aylin Acet; Günaydin, Fatma Esra; GÜNAYDIN, FATMA ESRA; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi; 0000-0001-8837-2527; 0000-0001-5321-3964; 0000-0002-3793-9834; 0000-0003-0183-6232; 0000-0002-4746-529X; 0000-0001-7284-4999; 0000-0002-1405-8401; 0000-0002-7064-7585; 0000-0002-2256-3619; 0000-0002-6619-2952; 0000-0002-6922-4948; 0000-0002-7832-6233; 0000-0002-9268-1071; 0000-0002-0227-9215; 0000-0001-8394-6544; 0000-0003-1887-7989; 0000-0002-9008-7909; 0000-0002-9077-0580; 0000-0002-5347-2365; 0000-0003-3404-4274; HHS-7147-2022; AAO-8667-2020; AAC-2765-2021; AAA-7773-2020; HKV-2265-2023; ABA-4700-2020; G-2709-2018; AAK-5467-2020; AAH-4957-2020; ADF-0894-2022; ABB-3303-2021; HHC-7785-2022; ABG-9411-2021; KHW-6493-2024; AAS-6628-2021; S-7221-2016; HLX-2603-2023; AAW-3004-2020; I-9505-2013; HGA-6716-2022; X-1418-2018; ABF-9398-2020; A-9993-2008; AAB-8485-2022; ACB-2570-2022As coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spreads across the world, the ongoing clinical trials are leading to a big race worldwide to develop a treatment that will help control the pandemic. Unfortunately, COVID-19 does not have any known effective treatment with reliable study results yet. In this pandemic, there is not a lot of time to develop a new specific agent because of the rapid spread of the disease. The process of developing a vaccine is long and requires hard work. Although the pathophysiology of the disease is not fully understood, some of the proposed treatment alternatives are based on old evidence and some have been used with the idea that they might work owing to their mechanism of action. The efficacy, reliability, and safety of the currently available treatment alternatives are therefore a matter of debate. Currently, the main therapies used in the treatment of COVID-19 are antiviral drugs and chloroquine/hydroxychloroquine. Other proposed options include tocilizumab, convalescent plasma, and steroids, but the mainstay of the treatment in intensive care units remains supportive therapies.Publication Development of electrodeposited multilayer coatings: A review of fabrication, microstructure, properties and applications(Elsevier, 2021-08-12) Aliofkhazraei, M.; Walsh, Frank C.; Zangari, Giovanni; Koçkar, Hakan; Alper, Mürsel; Rizal, Conrad; Magagnin, Luca; Protsenko, Vyacheslav; Arunachalam, Ramanathan; Rezvanian, Amirreza; Moein, Arian; Assareh, Sahar; Allahyarzadeh, Mohammad Hossein; ALPER, MÜRSEL; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi/Fizik Bölümü.; AAG-8795-2021The demand for robust engineering materials demonstrating good tribological performance under arduous service conditions has forged the development of novel coating materials and techniques. In the field of surface engineering, multilayer structures have attracted great interest. Electrodeposition offers a versatile and controlled route to engineering coatings in tribology. Electrodeposited coatings can provide tailored electronic, magnetic, mechanical, wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant characteristics as well as an improved load-bearing capability. The performance of multilayered electrodeposits can significantly exceed that of single layers. This paper critically reviews the fabrication, microstructure, engineering properties and potential applications of electrodeposited multilayer coatings. Such coatings can provide powerful, complementary additions to the toolkit for engineering electrodeposition, enabling future advances. Critical aspects requiring further R & D endeavors are identified.Publication Dynamics and bifurcations in multistable 3-cell neural networks(Amer Inst Physics, 2020-07-01) Collens, J.; Pusuluri, K.; Kelley, A.; Knapper, D.; Xing, T.; Basodi, S.; Shilnikov, A. L.; Alacam, D.; ALAÇAM, DENİZ; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Matematik Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0001-6269-216X; FYS-2617-2022We disclose the generality of the intrinsic mechanisms underlying multistability in reciprocally inhibitory 3-cell circuits composed of simplified, low-dimensional models of oscillatory neurons, as opposed to those of a detailed Hodgkin-Huxley type [Wojcik et al., PLoS One 9, e92918 (2014)]. The computational reduction to return maps for the phase-lags between neurons reveals a rich multiplicity of rhythmic patterns in such circuits. We perform a detailed bifurcation analysis to show how such rhythms can emerge, disappear, and gain or lose stability, as the parameters of the individual cells and the synapses are varied.Publication Dysregulation of the epithelial barrier by environmental and other exogenous factors(Wiley, 2021-08-18) Mitamura, Yasutaka; Öğülür, İsmail; Pat, Yağız; Rinaldi, Arturo O.; Ardıçlı, Özge; Cevhertaş, Laçin; Brueggen, Marie-Charlotte; Traidl-Hoffmann, Claudia; Akdiş, Mübeccel; Akdiş, Cezmi A.; ARDIÇLI, ÖZGE; Cevhertaş, Laçin; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Veteriner Fakültesi/Mikrobiyoloji Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Sağlık Bilimleri Enstitüsü/Tıbbi İmmünoloji Anabilim Dalı.; AAG-7421-2021; FYD-1431-2022The "epithelial barrier hypothesis" proposes that the exposure to various epithelial barrier-damaging agents linked to industrialization and urbanization underlies the increase in allergic diseases. The epithelial barrier constitutes the first line of physical, chemical, and immunological defense against environmental factors. Recent reports have shown that industrial products disrupt the epithelial barriers. Innate and adaptive immune responses play an important role in epithelial barrier damage. In addition, recent studies suggest that epithelial barrier dysfunction plays an essential role in the pathogenesis of the atopic march by allergen sensitization through the transcutaneous route. It is evident that external factors interact with the immune system, triggering a cascade of complex reactions that damage the epithelial barrier. Epigenetic and microbiome changes modulate the integrity of the epithelial barrier. Robust and simple measurements of the skin barrier dysfunction at the point-of-care are of significant value as a biomarker, as recently reported using electrical impedance spectroscopy to directly measure barrier defects. Understanding epithelial barrier dysfunction and its mechanism is key to developing novel strategies for the prevention and treatment of allergic diseases. The aim of this review is to summarize recent studies on the pathophysiological mechanisms triggered by environmental factors that contribute to the dysregulation of epithelial barrier function.Publication Economics: From modernism to postmodernism(İstanbul Üniversitesi, 2021-01-01) Bakır, Hasan; Bahtiyar, Görkem; BAKIR, HASAN; BAHTİYAR, GÖRKEM; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Meslek Yüksekokulu/Sosyal Bilimler; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesi; 0000-0002-8248-6643; JEI-2603-2023; GRT-3308-2022The dominant form of theory in the world of economics today, namely, the Neoclassical economics, claims its theories are universal, scientific and rational. Relying on the positivist methodology, the claim that humanity will be able to dominate the environment through positive analysis, which is one of the tenets of the enlightenment and hence modernism has an important place in the development of this perspective in economics. However, the idea that the social environment of man could easily be manipulated with positive inferences like those in the natural sciences seems problematic. The debate over whether it is possible to mention of single positive facts in economic life started long ago and more pluralistic points of view flourished later. Within this process, diversity and difference replaces the single fact positivism, and methodological individualism is replaced by a more holistic approach. At the same time individuals' thoughts and emotions as well as cultural norms of different societies are subjects of scrutiny again. In this vein, the Original Institutional Economics and the Heuristic approach to economics and mentality came into the fore again. The aim of this study is to present the evolution of economics from modernism to postmodernism as a disciplined thought process.Publication Effects of material properties on the mechanical and durability behaviors of khorasan mortar mixtures: A review(Taylor, 2021-03-05) İsafça, Tuğçe; Karakuzu, Kemal; Özen, Süleyman; Doğangün, Adem; Mardani-Aghabaglou, Ali; İsafça, Tuğçe; Karakuzu, Kemal; DOĞANGÜN, ADEM; MARDANİ, ALİ; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/İnşaat Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0002-9331-1339; 0000-0002-1023-3962; 0000-0002-1867-7103; 0000-0003-0326-5015; AAR-6126-2020; C-7860-2015; GBH-3020-2022; GFM-1667-2022Historical buildings are an important piece of our cultural heritage. It is important that the materials used in the preservation, repair and reinforcement applications of these structures should be compatible with the existing structure. In many of the historical buildings in Turkey, it was reported use of the Khorasan mortar as the masonry mortar and plaster. Khorasan mortar contains slaked lime as a binder, river sand, and clayey materials as aggregate, which are fired at high temperature. It was emphasized that this mortar is an essential building material widely used in the construction and repair of historical buildings from past to present. In this study, the effects of binder, aggregate, chemical admixture, organic admixture, and fiber properties on the mechanical and durability performance of Khorasan mortar and lime-based mortar mixtures were investigated. For this purpose, a comprehensive literature research was carried out on this subject. In addition, the positive and negative effects of these materials on the mortar mixture were emphasized.Publication Endovascular treatment modalities for basilar artery fenestration aneurysms: Experience of two centers and literature review(Tübitak Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Araştırma Kurumu, 2021-01-01) Korkmaz, Mehmet; Çınar, Celal; Nas, Ömer Fatih; Hakyemez, Bahattin; Oran, İsmail; NAS, ÖMER FATİH; HAKYEMEZ, BAHATTİN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Radyoloji Anabilim Dalı; 0000-0002-3425-0740; AAI-2318-2021; AAG-8561-2021Background/aim: The aim of this study is to present our experience on various endovascular treatment modalities of basilar fenestration aneurysms and reviewing our findings together with literature data. Materials and methods: A total of 26 basilar artery fenestration (BAF) aneurysms in 24 patients were endovascularly treated in two different neurointerventional radiology clinics. All patients had been evaluated with computed tomography (CT), CT angiography, and digital subtraction angiography before the procedure. Results: Aneurysms of all patients were successfully occluded (technical success rate 100%). Procedure-related complications were seen in two patients. Our comprehensive literature research revealed that studies related with the topic are composed mostly of case reports. In the literature, a total of 113 BAF aneurysms of 101 patients had been treated endovascularly in 46 studies between 1993 and 2019. Success rate of the treatment was reported as 97%, clinical success rate as 91%, and complication rate as 8.8%, while these rates are 100%, 92%, and 7.6% in our study, respectively. Conclusion: Although the number of cases is low in our study, to our knowledge, it is the widest series in the literature until today. Our results demonstrate that BAF aneurysms can be treated successfully and safely with different endovascular techniques, with more stent use in recent years.Publication Evaluation of children with tuberculosis: A 10-year retrospective study(Galenos Publishing House, 2022-12) Yeşil, Edanur; Sezer, Çisel; Çelebi, Solmaz; Turan, Cansu; Bülbül, Beyhan; Hacımustafaoğlu, Mustafa; SEZER, ÇİSEL; ÇELEBİ, SOLMAZ; HACIMUSTAFAOĞLU, MUSTAFA KEMAL; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı; 0000-0002-3928-3453; 0000-0002-3536-0263; 0000-0003-4646-660X; FVE-4013-2022; JHN-1091-2023; CTG-5805-2022Introduction: Childhood tuberculosis is a perspective that adult tuberculosis is not well controlled in the community. PCR was positive in 45% (n=47) of the 104 cases in which mycobacterial PCR was examined. Side effects were observed in 11% of the cases, and hepatotoxicity was observed most frequently (n=11, 6.3%). One patient died in the seventh month of treatment due to complications related to cystic fibrosis. Conclusion: Tuberculosis is a highly contagious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and may result in mortality if left untreated. In this study, culture positivity was found to be 18%, and the most common side effect was hepatotoxicity.Publication Explicit and systematic scripted instructional programs for students with autism spectrum disorder: An updated and extended review(Springer Heidelberg, 2021-07-22) Sulu, Mehmet D.; Martella, Ronald C.; Toper, Özlem; Marchand-Martella, Nancy E.; Kıyak, Üzeyir E.; TOPER, ÖZLEM; KIYAK, ÜZEYİR EMRE; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Eğitim Fakültesi/Özel Eğitim Bölümü.; 0000-0002-2681-9407; E-6501-2018; EDN-7767-2022In a recent review of explicit and systematic, scripted instructional programs for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Plavnick et al. (Review Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 2, 55-66, 2015) found that only 1 of 9 studies met all eight quality indicators outlined by Horner et al. (Exceptional Children, 71(2), 165-179, 2005). These authors made four recommendations to establish explicit, systematic, and scripted instructional programs (ESS) as evidence based. The aim of this systematic review was to replicate and extend the Plavnick et al. findings. In the current review, 9 articles published between 2013 and 2020 in peer-reviewed journals were found that met the following inclusion criteria: at least one of the participants had to be diagnosed with ASD and the independent variable had to be a published, explicit, and systematic scripted instructional program. Articles were analyzed based on (a) their specific attributes; (b) their quality based on the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Standards for Evidence-Based Practices in Special Education (Cook et al., Remedial and Special Education, 36(4), 220-234, 2015); and (c) the improvements, if any, in the research on the problem areas outlined by Plavnick et al. in the areas of lesson completion/program information, measures, description of participant characteristics, and involvement of parents or school personnel as instructors. Results showed (a) that the age range of the participants was from 4 to 17 years, most studies used researcher-developed assessments or assessments within the program, the most frequently used program was Language for Learning, instructional sessions lasted from 10 min to 1.5 h over 4 weeks to 2 academic years, and the most frequently used research design was single-case; (b) 3 of 9 studies met CEC quality indicators with weakness in program implementation and/or design features; and (c) compared to Plavnick et al., results showed improvements in providing information on program implementation but a continued failure to implement all lessons, a continuation of inadequate and/or infrequent measures, improvements in providing participant characteristics information, and greater involvement of school (or clinic) personnel as instructors in program implementation. Results are discussed along with recommendations.Publication Fight against infectious diseases from ottoman era to republic of turkey(Tasarım Bilişim, 2020-04-01) Töre, Okan; Töre, Okan; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Tıbbi Mikrobiyoloji Anabilim Dalı; 0000-0002-9780-5387; HKV-0390-2023Having faced invasions and migrations of numerous tribes and nations for centuries, Anatolia is located in a geographic region where many have settled and thrived to build civilizations such as Gobeklitepe, the oldest recorded human settlement dated back to 10 000 BC. It is therefore only natural for many infectious diseases to reach and prevail in this territory during these invasions and migrations. Starting from the second half of the 19th century, and continuing with the Turkish Republic period, efforts and their consequences in the fight against infectious diseases which caused deep burden to mankind and especially Anatolian nations are reviewed in this article.Publication Fluoxetine-associated sleep disorders-report of two cases and literature review(Galenos Yayıncılık, 2021-09-01) Leba, Leyla Köse; Demir, Aylin Bican; BİCAN DEMİR, AYLİN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Nöroloji Anabilim Dalı; 0000-0001-6739-8605; V-7170-2017Narcolepsy is a condition characterised by excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy, hypnogogic hallucination and sleep paralysis. Sleep-related eating disorder (SRED) is a parasomnia that occurs while sleeping and manifests itself as paroxysmal episodes of involuntary eating and/or drinking. Both sleep disorders often occur as primary conditions. Sleep disorders secondary to medical treatment less often occur. This report presents the case of a patient with narcolepsy and another with SRED as a result of anamnesis and polysomnography. These sleep disorders are due to recently initiated fluoxetine treatment. Sleep disorder occurring as secondary to medication has been ignored because it has eluded the clinicians.Publication Her-2 positivity rate in dogs with mammary carcinoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis(Hellenic Veterinary Medical Soc, 2020-04-01) Uzabacı, Ender; UZABACI, ENDER; Özyiğit, Musa Özgür; ÖZYİĞİT, MUSA ÖZGÜR; Ercan, İlker; Arda, O.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Veteriner Fakültesi/ Patoloji Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Veteriner Fakültesi/ Biyoistatistik Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-9634-0055; 0000-0002-2382-290X; JPL-5273-2023; ABF-2367-2020; AAR-6478-2021Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) plays an essential role in cell growth and survival. HER-2 overexpression occurs in 20-30% of human breast tumors and has prognostic value as it is associated with disease progression. HER-2 overexpression is also associated with tumor progression and metastasis in malignant mammary tumors of the canine. However, in the literature, different positivity classifications/scoring were used in the evaluation of HER-2 status, and there is no consensus in terms of scoring of HER-2 expression in canine mammary tumors. In this study, it was aimed to estimate the HER-2 positivity rate by evaluating the results of the study using different positivity classifications by meta-analysis. In this context, by using "HER-2 canine mammary tumor" keywords, Pubmed and Web of Science electronic databases were scanned until February 2019, and a total of 97 related studies were found. However, 20 of these studies were used for the analysis. Two different meta-analyses were performed to evaluate the HER-2 positivity status with "2+ and 3+" and "3+" scores. As a result, HER-2 positivity rates were determined at 25.87% and 25.99% for the studies using "2+/3+" scores and "3+" respectively for HER-2 positivity. Therefore, this result suggests that the rate of HER-2 positivity is similar between humans and dogs.
