We aimed to comparatively evaluate the outcomes of 15 and 30 W Ho:YAG laser lithotriptors in pediatric ureter stones.Materials and Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 55 children who underwent ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy to treat ureter stone size up to 15 mm between September 2009 and March 2020. Groups were formed according to the laser lithotriptor power 15 W (Group 15: n = 32), 30 W (Group 30: n = 23). The efficiency of laser lithotriptors was compared between the groups.Results: The age, gender, and stone characteristics (longest stone diameter, density, location and multiple stones) were similar between the groups. In the postop first month, stone-free status was achieved in all cases except one child in Group 15. The median operative time was significantly shorter in Group 30 (40 minutes) than in Group 15 (52.5 minutes) (P = .010). Clavien-Dindo class (CDC) 2 complications occurred in 2 children in both groups (P = .597). Although ureteric stenosis was observed in 1 patient in Group 15, no ureteric stenosis was seen in Group 30 during follow-up (median 16.1 months). Length of hospital stay (LoHS) and stone-free rates were similar between groups.Conclusion: URS with 15 and 30 W Ho:YAG laser lithotriptors is an effective treatment option for pediatric ureteral stones with a high success rate and low complication rates. The defect has been described in human beings, dogs, cats, pigs, and horses.Case presentationThis paper describes the case of a complete atrioventricular canal defect in a four-year-old intact male pet ferret (Mustela putorius furo), which was presented due to posterior weakness, ataxia, and decreased appetite. A loud systolic murmur, dyspnea, and hind limb paraparesis were detected during the clinical examination. Thoracic radiographs showed generalized cardiomegaly and lung edema. ECG showed sinus rhythm with prolonged P waves and QRS complexes. Echocardiography showed a large atrial septal defect, atrioventricular dysplasia, and a ventricular septal defect. Palliative treatment with oxygen, furosemide, spironolactone, enalapril, diltiazem, and supportive care was chosen as the therapy of choice. The ferret recovered gradually during hospitalization. Primary angiosarcomas (PAS) are rare tumors that constitute 0.04% of all malignant breast tumors. We report a case of a 40-year-old woman with a lump in the right breast and diagnosed as angiosarcoma by pathological evaluation. She underwent simple mastectomy followed by adjuvant radiation. She is alive and disease-free for 66 months although tumor size was large and one surgical margin was tumor positive. Breast angiosarcoma is often in advanced stage at diagnosis and tends to recur locally. Non-parametric McNemar's and Wilcoxon tests were used in data analysis. Pre and posttest judgements of items regarding dual relationships differred significantly, and their level of confidence increased significantly with a large effect size. In this study, the effect of different groove geometries on stress-strain distributions in small-diameter conical implants is investigated using the finite element method (FEM). Four different thread models (rectangular, buttressed, reverse buttressed, and symmetrical profile) are created by changing the groove geometry on the one-piece implants, and the obtained results are compared. The stress shielding effect is investigated through the dimensionless numbers that characterize the load-sharing between the bone-implant. It is determined that the lowest stress distribution is observed with rectangular profiled groove geometry. Besides, it is obtained that the buttressed groove geometry minimizes the stress effects transmitted to the periphery of the implant. Problems caused by sudden load changes in mobile systems are frequently encountered today. Gear dynamics have become more influential due to demands of high power transmission capability, long life, and low-cost. However, inertial forces caused by accelerated movements of gear can have unpredictable results. The impact loads must be calculated correctly. It is inconvenient to determine the impact strength of gear via standard drop-weight test rig due to inhomogeneity and complex geometries. This study investigates how the tooth profile affects the impact load on the involute spur gears. For this reason, a special test setup and experimental approach was proposed to examine the influence of the asymmetric profile on the impact strength. It was observed that the peak force values increased by approximately 15.3% when using 20/30 degrees asymmetric profile gears in comparison with the 20 degrees/20 degrees standard design. This improvement can reach up to 25.8% in terms of peak force energy. Coriander (C. sativum L.) and cumin (C. cyminum L.) are two members of Apiaceae family which commonly used for medicinal purpose due to their antioxidant activity. Since the antioxidants are compounds that prevent the oxidation by neutralizing free radicals, researches about their potential utilizations are of great interest for food science and technology. Due to the consumer preference and the worries about synthetic antioxidant compounds, the food industry shows tendency to use natural antioxidant compounds obtained from plant materials. FDA has recognized more than 150 plants as GRAS, without no limitations intake. Coriander, cumin, anise, fennel, thyme and oregano are some plants found in this list. The focus of this research is to contrast the composition of phenolic profile and antioxidant activity of ethanolic and methanolic extracts of these two medicinal herbs belonging to the Apiaceae family. For this purpose, coriander and cumin were analyzed for phenolic compounds and antioxidant assay. The vehicle and the human body models are used to determine the optimal values leading to better ride comfort by means of different optimisation methods, including the particle swarm optimisation (PSO), the differential evolution (DE), and the genetic algorithm (GA). Since the non-linear approach reflects more realistic vibration behaviour than the linear one, the seat and suspension springs are assumed to have cubic progressive characteristics in the mathematical model. An objective function is proposed according to the feasible ideal solution of the root-mean-square (RMS) values of the seat, vehicle, and head accelerations and the suspension deflections considering the constrained functions. For this purpose, chemical coagulation with various coagulants including Al-2(SO4)center dot 18H(2)O, FeCl3 center dot 6H(2)O and FeSO4 center dot 7H(2)O was applied, followed by adsorption processes. In the coagulation experiments, the maximum color removal efficiency (48%) was obtained at pH 6.5 with a 300 mg/L dose of Al-2(SO4)(3)center dot 18H(2)O. The adsorption experiments were conducted using 5 g each of agricultural waste adsorbent (corncob) particles with dimensions of 0.25 mm, 0.50 mm, 0.85 mm and 1.25 mm on the chemically treated wastewater samples, and color removal efficiencies of up to 100% were obtained. In addition, adsorption columns were designed according to the experimental data. As a result of the design calculations, 84 tons of the corncob are required to effectively remove color from 10,000 m(3) of textile wastewater. This study compares the use of these disinfectants and helps decide which is superior to the other for neonatal use.Methods: All term and preterm infants born and hospitalized in Bursa Uludag University Hospital between July 2018-March 2020 were included. The infants were randomized into two disinfectant groups before birth. The application site was cleaned with the assigned disinfectant before intervention. The infants were screened for rates of neonatal sepsis, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels, free thyroxine (fT4) levels, skin reactions to the assigned solution, and acute neurological side effects.Results: We enrolled 208 term and preterm infants (PI:104 vs. CHG-IA: 104) in the study. The prematurity rates were identical (PI: 74.0%; CHG-IA: 72.1%; p = 0.755). Neonatal sepsis rates among these groups were not statistically different (PI: 8.7%; CHG-IA: 4.8%; p = 0.406). The median TSH value of the PI group was high (4.05 mIU/L) in comparison with that of the CHG-IA group (3.09 mIU/L; p = 0.016). No cutaneous or neurological side effects were recorded in patients treated with CHG-IA solution.Conclusions: Although these two solutions were equally protective against infections, the CHG-IA solution was a better alternative to PI for neonatal use. Considering that the PI solution may be responsible for impaired thyroid function, the CHG-IA solution is a good alternative because it provides sufficient protection with a safer adverse effect profile.Publication A comparison of organically and conventionally grown artichokes: Phenolic constituents, antioxidant and antibacterial activities(Akademiai Kiado Zrt, 2020-03-01) Yıldırım, Arzu; Başay, Sevinç; Türker, Arzu Uçar; BAŞAY, SEVİNÇ; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Bahçe Bitkileri Bölümü; 0000-0001-7712-2813; CEO-1932-2022Globe artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.) is a perennial plant belonging to Asteraceae family. It is one of the most suitable plants for growing organically. Artichoke has been used as choleretic. hepatoprotective, anticarcinogenic, antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial. cholesterol-reducing, and diuretic in traditional medicine. Artichoke has been cultivated worldwide because of its nutritional value and medicinal properties. In this study organically and conventionally grown artichokes were compared in terms of phenolic constituents, antibacterial and antioxidant activities. Artichoke leaves, bracts, and floral receptacles obtained from 2 different sources (organic and conventional) were freeze-dried, powdered, and extracts were prepared with methanol. Phenolic constituents (chlorogenic acid, cynarin, luteolin, and apigenin) were analysed by HPLC-DAD system. It was found that organic farming enhanced cynarin, chlorogenic acid, and luteolin amounts in receptacle (edible part). Organically grown leaves had also higher amounts of cynarin and chlorogenic acid than conventional ones. Cynarin amount was higher by 35% in organic receptacle and 20% in organic leaves. Organic farming also augmented the antioxidant property and flavonoid content of edible parts of the artichoke. Additionally, organically grown leaves had the highest antioxidant activity, total phenol and flavonoid contents. While Lactococcus garvieae, associated with warm-water streptococcosis, causes thousands of tons of mortalities, Vagococcus salmoninarum, the causative agent of cold-water streptococcosis, leads to chronic disease and devastating mortality in broodstock. In the present study, five bacterial samplings were performed from outbreaks that occurred between winter 2019 and summer 2020 in rainbow trout broodstock. The isolates were comprehensively characterized by phenotypic tests, using the API 20 Strept, Rapid ID 32 Strept and BIOLOG GENIII test kits. The antimicrobial susceptibilities of the strains were compared by the disk diffusion method, according to the guidelines of the Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI), additionally on commonly used media such as mueller-hinton agar and tryptic soy agar. Following a genomic approach, we analyzed the VS-1 strain by whole-genome sequencing. Virulence genes and correlation data were supported with the histopathological examination of the affected organs and tissues. The genome of the VS-1 strain included 69 virulence genes and 31 antimicrobial resistance genes. In this work, the geometrical and intrinsic detection efficiencies of the 2in both in height and diameter and 3in both in height and diameter cylindrical NaI(Tl) detectors have been calculated for low-energy gamma ray. In these calculations, the effects of cover layers of NaI(Tl) (aluminum housing and reflector) have been taken into consideration. To evaluate the calculation model, the detection efficiency of the detector is measured and modelled using MCNP simulation tool. Isotropic 241Am was used as a point source. The investigated parameters were OT, UAS using, and infection status. The data were analysed by forming two groups according to whether the OT was less than 60 minutes and more, whether the UAS was used and whether an infection occurred. In addition, independent risk factors that may affect postoperative urinary infection development were also investigated by logistic regression analysis. And, a Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was applied to determine a cut-off value in OT terms, where infection rates increase more.Results A total of 575 patients were enrolled in the study. The rates of the usage of UAS and infection were greater statistically in the group for longer than 60 minutes. OT was longer statistically in the infection group than in the group without infection (94.1 +/- 14.2 and 68.01 +/- 23.1, for groups 1 and 2, respectively, P < .05, Table 2). OT was statistically longer in the UAS group than the unused one (79.3 +/- 24.4 and 66.7 +/- 22.4, for groups 1 and 2, respectively, P < .05, Table 3). There is growing evidence that simulations/animations along with augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies can improve learners' engagement, competence, and skills: especially when compared to traditional didactic methods. However, this approach to teaching and learning (T&L) is difficult when studied at distance, or without access to the appropriate technologies to carry out the suggested activities. Leading to the need to develop appropriate methods and content that suit this pedagogical problem.This paper describes the development of an AR/VR application to support the T&L of design and engineering students in education and industry. Using a multi-disciplinary design-based research methodology, this European (UK, Bulgaria, Turkey) funded research project combines pedagogy and technology to approach TDs education problems; and to develop an AR/VR education solution to address learning difficulties within the different critical TDs categories identified.This development is based on findings from an international study in three different categories covering the perception of TDs education, assessing of TDs knowledge and ability, and expectations of TDs education. Many studies of flipped instruction in mathematics have involved a small number of classes utilizing flipped instruction being compared to classes with non-flipped instruction, but this study design fails to account for variations in how teachers implement flipped instruction. There seems to be as much variation within flipped implementations and within non-flipped implementations as there are between the two categories. To aid systematic attention to variation, this article presents a framework for flipped mathematics lessons that identifies key features of the videos assigned as homework as well as features of the in-class time with students. The components of the framework allow for structurally similar implementations to be grouped together meaningfully whereas different implementations, though still under the banner of 'flipped instruction', can be distinguished from one another. The United States requested Turkey's collaboration in the war against Iraq. The Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government initially sought a peaceful settlement hut eventually decided to align with the United States. Systemic and structural factors made cooperation with the United States an imperative for Turkey, which may be classified as a secondary state in the regional context. While the domestic political environment was favorable for the Turkish government to reach such a decision, it was hindered by the Grand National Assembly of 'Turkey (GNAT). In this framework the study has two primary purposes. The first is to prove that in restrictive international environments where opportunities and threats are clear and the decision-making process is constrained by time, domestic divisions may matter in foreign policy and prevail over the systemic imperative, contrary to conventional expectations. A statement pool has been created by using literature reviews and semi-structured interviews. A 21-item nomophobia scale (NSPS) was developed in consultation with the expert opinion. This questionnaire was first conducted to a group of 40 students Bursa Uludag University. After the readability and clarity of the questions were tested, it was carried out with 400 inhabitants of rural people in Bursa, Turkey. Exploratory factor analysis was applied to the data obtained by the face-to-face survey method. The analysis confirmed the four-factor structure: attachment, avoidance, conflict, and interwind identity. These factors explain 91.93% of the total variance. Kaiser-Meyer-011cin coefficient and Bartlett's test were found significant respectively at .936 and chi 2 (210) = 1536.293 (p < .001). Internal consistency coefficient was found 0.922 for the whole scale and at values ranged from 0.968, 0.952, 0941 and 0.924 for the factors. The statistical analysis indicates that the NSPS scale is valid and reliable; hence can be used to determine the existence and severity of nomophobic behaviour for rural communities.
