Abstract
Mutluluk son dönemlerde hem akademik araştırmaların hem de sosyal politikaların odak noktası haline gelmiştir. Mutluluğun sadece bireyleri değil, bireylerin başta aileleri olmak üzere yakın çevrelerini ve bu bağlamda ülkenin sosyal düzenini, toplumun refahını da ilgilendiren bir olgu olması, bu konuyu önemli kılmaktadır. Bu nedenle, mutluluğun kavramsal boyutlarının araştırılması ve mutluluğu etkileyen faktörlerin belirlenmesi önem arz etmektedir. Buradan hareketle bu çalışmada, mutluluğun mekânsal dağılımındaki farklılıklar ortaya konarak, mutluluk ile sosyoekonomik değişkenler arasındaki ilişkinin ülkeler arası etkileşimi incelenmiştir. Bu kapsamda sınır komşusu olan ülkelerin birbirlerini etkilediği göz önünde bulundurularak, mutluluk kavramı coğrafi bir bakış açısıyla ele alınmıştır. Mutluluğun ülkeler arası dağılım deseninin incelenmesi, belirli alanlarda kümelenmelerin olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Mutluluk değerleri bölgesel düzeyde farklılıklar göstermekte ve ülkeler yayılma etkisiyle birbirini etkilemektedir. 2008-2020 döneminde 95 ülkenin analize konu olduğu bu çalışmada araştırma modelindeki bulgular; cömertlik, sosyal destek, seçim yapma özgürlüğü ve gayrisafi yurtiçi hâsıla değişkenlerinin mutluluğu pozitif etkilediğini göstermektedir. İşsizliğin ise mutluluğu olumsuz olarak etkilediği belirlenmiştir. Bu çalışmanın sonuçları, gelecekte yapılacak araştırmalar için sağlam bir analiz altyapısı sunmaktadır.
Happiness has recently become the focus of both academic research and social policies. The fact that happiness is a phenomenon that concerns not only individuals, but also their immediate surroundings, especially their families, and in this context, the social order of the country and the welfare of the society, makes this issue important. Therefore, it is important to investigate the conceptual dimensions of happiness and determine the factors that affect happiness. Based on this, this study examined the cross-country interaction of the relationship between happiness and socioeconomic variables by revealing the differences in the spatial distribution of happiness. In this context, considering that neighboring countries affect each other, the concept of happiness is discussed from a geographical perspective. Examination of the cross-country distribution pattern of happiness has revealed that there are clusters in certain countries. Happiness values show regional differences and countries affect each other through spillover effects. In this study, which analyzed 95 countries in the period 2008-2020, the findings in the research model show that generosity, social support, freedom to make life choices and gross domestic product variables positively affect happiness. Unemployment, on the other hand, has a negative effect on happiness. The results of this study provide a solid analysis infrastructure for future research.
