Abstract
Namık Kemal edebiyat vasıtasıyla toplumu yönlendirmek ister. Tiyatroyu bu amacına ulaşabilmek için kullanır. Vatan Yahut Silistre isimli oyunu Türk Edebiyat tarihinde “romantik tiyatro”nun ilk tipik örneklerindendir. Bu oyunun konusu Kırım Savaşı sırasında geçer. Silistre Kalesi’nin kurtarılması için askerin gösterdiği fedakârlık ve kahramanlık anlatılır. Bu iki erdemle telkin edilen vatana sahip çıkmak, vatanı sevmek ve vatan uğrunda mücadele etmek yani vatan duygusudur.
The fundamental of Namik Kemal is to enlighten the public using literature. He uses the theatre as an instrument to reach his objectives. His play Vatan Yahut Silistre (Homeland or Silistre) purtraying the Crimean War, is one of the most typical models of the romantic theatre in Turkish Literature history. The play tells the sacrificing story of the soldiers fighting for the Silistre Castle. Through the story the writer tries to settle the ideas of patriotism, love of motherland and fighting for it by emphasising the concepts of sacrifice and heroism.
