Abstract
In this study, which was carried out using the Hirst type particle sampler with the volumetric method in a two-year period between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2020, pollen and fungal spores in the atmosphere of Balıkesir city were determined and their seasonal, monthly, daily concentrations and variations were determined. Pollen grains belonging to a total of 60 taxa, 33 of woody plants and 27 herbaceous plants, were identified in Balıkesir atmosphere for two years. The two-year total concentration of the detected pollen was 35042 pollen/m³. Cupressaceae/Taxaceae, Pinus, Quercus, Poaceae, Urticaceae, Platanus, Amaranthaceae and Olea taxa represented the dominant pollen types. Fungal spores belonging to a total of 58 taxa, 44 belonging to the Ascomycota divisionand 14 belonging to the Basidiomycota division, were identified in the atmosphere of Balıkesir in two years. The two-year total concentration of the detected fungal spores was 276947 spores/m³. Cladosporium, Alternaria, Ustiginales, Ganoderma, Coprinoid type, Fusarium, Pleospora, Leptosphaeria and Epicoccum taxa respectively represented the dominant fungal spore types in Balıkesir atmosphere.Calendars based on two-year averages were prepared for atmospheric pollen and fungal spores in Balıkesir province, Main Pollen Seasons (MPS) for dominant pollen and Main Sports Seasons (MSS) were revealed for dominant fungal spores. Nonparametric Spearman correlation analyze were carried out to compare the daily concentrations of the dominant pollen and fungal spores with meteorological data, and the relationships of pollen and fungal spores with meteorological variables were revealed. In this study, it is aimed to contribute to the allergologists in the region in the prevention and treatment of individuals with allergic sensitivity in the light of the data obtained from pollen and fungal spores, which are most important atmospheric allergens, and also to assist the producers and agricultural engineers dealing with agricultural activities in the region about fungal diseases.
