Abstract
The cat, which has been present in human life for thousands of years, has been ascribed sacredness by attributing religious meaning to it; it has been ignored, even demonized and destroyed. It has somehow attracted attention and taken its place next to human beings since the periods when people were just beginning to civilize and settled life. Accordingly, it was tried to determine the cat figures depicted in this process, including the ancient civilizations, starting from the Neolithic period. The research is a qualitative research and the data and findings used in the study are based solely on the literature review and the figurines, sculptures, ceramics, mosaics, tomb steles, coins in the online museum catalogs. These artifacts were evaluated using the content analysis technique. When the artifacts are compared with each other, it is seen that Ancient Egypt was the pioneer in depictions and from there it spread to other geographies. However, since there are many cat-related artifacts from Ancient Egypt, the examples were limited. In addition, the findings were associated with social life, religious beliefs and historical records; the importance of the cat in human life and the symbolic meanings attributed to it.
