Modernitenin şafağında sözün düşüşü ve Don Quijote

Abstract

Modernitenin ana karakteristikleri bilinebilse de kesin başlangıç noktası hâlâ spekülatif bir konudur. Üzerinde uzlaşılmış konulardan bir tanesi ise modern felsefenin Descartes, modern romanın ise Cervantes ile başladığıdır. Modernitenin ana karakterlerinden bir tanesi kesinlik arayışıdır. Kesinlik arayışı ile birlikte sözün ve kulak-merkezli evrenin belirsiz ve çoksesli yapısı yerini yeni imaj ve göz-merkezli bir evrenin kesin ve teksesli yapısına bırakmıştır. Don Quijote’de yaptıkları, Cervantes’in kesinlikle bu dönüşümün farkında olduğunu gösterir. İlk cildi 1605’te, ikinci cildi ise 1615’te yayınlanan bu roman, bir anlamda eski dünyaya bir ağıt ve yeni dünyaya da bir merhabadır. Bu makalede, Cervantes’in Don Quijote’si temelinde modernitenin doğuşunun, kesinlik arayışı ile imajların yükselişinin ve sözün düşüşünün ayak izleri sürülmeye çalışılacaktır.

Even though the basic characterictics of modernity are known, its point of origin is still speculatif. Everyone agrees upon the fact that modern philosophy begin with Descartes, as do modern novel Cervantes. The one of the basic characters of modernity is the search for certainty. With the search for certainty, the ambiguous and polyphonic pattern of word and logocentristic universe gave place to pattern with certain and monophtong of the new image ocularcentristic universe. What done in Don Quixote is to show that Cervantes was certainly aware of this transformation. In a sense, this novel whose first volume published in 1605 and second volume published 1615, was an eulogy for old world and a greeting to the new one. In this article I will try to follow the origin of modernity according to Don Quixote of Cervantes, the rise of images and humiliation of word.
