Abstract
500 water samples taken from different sources around and the center of Bursa were bacteriologically investigated. Salmonella paratyphi B in 3 water samples (0.6 %) and Shigella flexnerii in 4 water samples ,(0.8 %) and enterotoxigenic E. coli in 3 water samples (0.6 %) have been isalated and ıdentıfıed in this study. Total 106 (21.2 %) of water samples. 60 (18.7 %) of 322 samples from çenter of Bursa, and 46 (23-2. %) of 178 samples from the vicinity of the city were found polluted. The fact that drinking and domestic water samples., examined in this work were found to be contaminated of the role of 2.0 % with salmonella and shigella and enterotoxigenic E. coli causing infections in digestive tract is extra ordinary, The importance of bacteriological Controls of drinking and domestic water supplies in the view of puplic health was discussed. Furthermore studies on the 98 water samples accepted as drinkable according to the method of Most Brobable Number of E. coli, sho- wed that they were not clear, instedd they harbor several of pathogenic bacteria. Coliform bacterm (81 samples), and Streptococcus faecalis (12 samples and Clostridium perfringens (2 samples), were isalated, and identifed in these water. Results abtained in this study clearly indicate that routine water controlling operations are polluted or not. More effective bacteriological examinations waters are necessary in order to get true results.
