dc.description.abstractBatı’da 19. yüzyılda Arapça kaynaklara ulaşılarak ve tarihi tenkit metodu kullanılarak yazılan eserler, oryantalist literatürde Hz. Muhammed’e dair yaklaşımları değiştirme ve gerçekleri yazma iddiasıyla ortaya çıkmışlardır. Sir William Muir’in eseri de Arapça kaynaklar kullanılarak oluşturulmuş ilk İngilizce eserdir. Bu eseri ve eserde uygulanan metodolojiyi anlamak, Batı’nın Hz. Muhammed tasavvurunu kavramak için önem arz etmektedir. Çalışmamızda Muir’in The Life of İslam adlı eseriyle birlikte tarihi tenkit metodunu da açıklamaya çalıştık. Bunun yanında bu metoda dair farklı yaklaşımları da belirtmeye çalıştık. Sonuç olarak ise William Muir’in her ne kadar eserini Arapça kaynaklara dayandırmak suretiyle objektif olduğunu iddia etse de, klasik orta çağ oryantalist yaklaşımından ayrılmadığını fark ettik.tr_TR
dc.description.abstractThe studies written in the 19th century in the West have come forward with the claim to change the approaches to Prophet Muhammad presented in the orientalist literature and to write the truth about him by obtaining and relying on the original Arabic sources and by applying the method of historical criticism to them. The work of Sir William Muir is the first work written in English with the utilization of such Arabic sources. Understanding this work and its methodology is important for understanding the Western conception of Prophet Muhammad. In this study, we tried to elucidate Muir’s work The Life of Mahomet together with the method of historical criticism as well. Besides this, we tried to explain different approaches to this method. Eventually, we realized that William Muir’s approach does not differ much from the mainstream medieval conception even though he claims to have written his work objectively by relying on the original Arabic sources.en_US
