Abstract
Determination the Anxiety Levels of Orthopedics and traumatology Patients who Apply to the Anesthesia Outpatient clinic , According to Their Sociodemographic Characteristics Objective: The aim is to determine the anxiety levels of patients scheduled for elective surgery by the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, as well as the reasons behind their anxiety. The study aims to determine the impact of demographic characteristics such as age, educational status, gender, marital status, occupation, on anxiety levels Materıal and Methods: In the Anesthesia outpatient clinic of the Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation at Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine, a total of 300 adult patients between the ages of 18-75, who were scheduled for elective surgery, were included in the questionnaire. Patients belonging to ASA (American Society of Anesthesiologists) class I and III, who were literate, had non-oncological surgical plans, and did not have any psychiatric or neurological diseases, and were not using psychiatric medication or chronic alcohol, were included in the study. Before the preoperative anesthesia examination, all patients included in the study; They were asked to fill out the demographic information form and the BECK anxiety scale form. Results: In this study, we evaluated the questionnaire results of 300 patients who were planned for elective surgery; Contrary to many studies, where women's preoperative anxiety levels are higher than men's, BECK-A values in the 18-39 age group are found to be lower, the scale score in married people is higher than in unmarried people, in our study there is a negative significant difference between education level and anxiety state. It was observed that there was a relationship between occupational groups and that the scale score of the retired group was higher than other occupational groups except housewives. Conclusion: Preoperative anxiety is an important health problem that negatively affects surgery, anesthesia and postoperative recovery. Most patients are anxious before surgery, and preoperative information and pharmacological premedication are needed to reduce anxiety levels. Therefore, the issue of preoperative anxiety should be addressed more carefully and more research should be conducted to reduce patients' anxiety.
