Abstract

The primary objective of this study has been to investigate the mechanical properties of brass having excellent hot-working properties in single-phase beta that were cooled to below the bainitic transformation temperature. For this reason, a group of specimens of Cu-Zn brass were heated to beta-solid solution region (830 degreesC) and another group samples of Cu-Zn brass were heated to alpha-solid solution region (650 degreesC). These materials were hot-quenched to 250 degreesC and 450 degreesC. The mechanical properties of these materials were determined as a function of heat treatments. There was no improvement observed on the mechanical properties with heat treatments.
