Basilic vein transposition a good choice for vascular access for A-V fistulas

dc.description.abstractAim. There is increasingly growing number of patients with end-stage renal disease who are extremely high risk because of complications associated with vascular access. Patients who require long-term hemodialysis need long-term vascular access. The transposed autologous basilic vein to brachial artery arteriovenous fistula provides vascular access in the absence of adequate superficial vein. Methods. We retrospectively revieved the outcomes of 42 arteriovenous fistulas using transposed basilic vein over 3-year period. This was a secondary or tertiary and more procedures. Patency and complications were identified Results. Of 42 fistulas 33 were successfully used. Nine were never used. Nineteen fistulas were failed. Mean patency rate for men was 25.5±2.6 months and for women 25±1.9 months. There was no statistical significance between men and women. Mean overall patency was 25.01±1.56 months. Actuarial fistula patency was 88 per-cent at one year, 70 per-cent at second and 38 per-cent at third year. Conclusion. Transposed basilic vein to brachial artery arteriovenous fistula is a good choice for arteriovenous fistula with low complication.
