Abstract
Sixty patients have been included in our study in our Hemodialysis unit. These patients have been classifıecl into three groups consisting of 20 patients each. The first group has been given Aluminium Hydroxide (A I(OH3 )) 4 gr/day, the second group calcium carbonate (CaCO3) 3 gr/day and the third group calcium acetate (CH2 COO)2 Ca) 5 gr/day orally for a period of three months. Vo statistically significant differences have been found in pre or post treatment mean levels of serum calcium, phosphorus, ionized calcium, alkaline phosphatase and intact parathyroid. However, senını aluminium levels has increased significantly in the group receiving AI(OH)3 (p < 0. 001). As a result, it may be said that calcium compounds can bind phosphorus as much as aluminium compounds can and that they can be administered safely without affecting serum aluminium level.
