Özet
Sarhoşluk verici özelliğinden dolayı içki, öncelikle keyif verici bîr madde olarak kullanılmıştır. Bununla beraber birçok dinde ayinler yapılırken başvurulan vasıtalardan biri de içki olmuştur. Yahudiliğin kutsal kitabı olan Eski Âhid'in bütün kitaplarında sarhoşluk olumsuz karşılanmaktadır.
Alcohol is particularly used as a substance of intoxication because of its feature of making people drunk. However, in most of the religions while the rites are taking place, alcohol is generally one of the means that is used in these ceremonies. In all the books of Old Testament which is a sacred book of Judaism, drunkenness is negatively considered. On the other hand, alcohol isn't always thought to be bad and isn't forbidden. It's also used in some religious ceremonies. In Christianity, except extreme groups such as Hormons and Kuveykirs, it is quite common to drink alcohol. Although there's not a ban to drink it in this religion. It's accepted as a rule that people shouldn't drink it as much as they get drunk. In Islam, while alcohol is canonically prohibited, as it's in most dominations of Islam, a way of gradual and persuasion is followed and then it's definitely banned.
