Volvulus of the distal jejunum and ileum and mesenteric torsion in a calf

Abstract

A Holstein calf with a history of absence of the faeces was presented with abdominal pain. Intestinal obstruction was suspected based on clinical and radiological findings and a ventral paramedian exploratory laparatomy was performed. Exploration of the abdominal cavity revealed "volvulus of the distal jejunum and ileum and torsion of the mesentery" in the small intestine, and were corrected. The calf recovered very well.
