Abstract

Due to the limited energy sources of Turkiye, attention should be paid on alternative fuel sources. In this study, possibility of using mixtures of fossil based diesel oil and vegetable oils which are accepted as new oil sources as engine fuel in diesel engines is examined. The aim of this study is to determine the performance of one cylinder a small diesel engine with indirect injection. Sunflower oil, cotton seed oil, rape seed oil and soybean oil has been used as diesel fuel. These vegetable oils has been mixed with diesel fuels at three ratios. This study, negative and positive effects of the these mixtures on engine characteristics curve was determined. Vegetable oils performed satisfactory at medium rpm in respect of diesel. However, it has been seen some deviations at lower and higher rpm.
