An analysis of the intra-industry trade between Turkey and the Middle East countries

Abstract

Intra-industry trade, defined as the export and import of goods within the same industry, has gained considerable importance in the international economics literature in recent years. This paper analyses the share of intra-industry trade in Turkey's foreign trade with the Middle East countries within the period from 1992 to 2009 by using the Grubel- Lloyd Index at SITC (Rev.3) 3-digit trade data. The results show that Turkey's foreign trade with the Middle East countries is primarily inter-industrial, despite increases in intraindustry trade. © EuroJournals Publishing, Inc. 2012.
