Katolik Kilisesinde Aziz Kültü

Abstract

Bu tez çalışmasında Hristiyanlıkta Aziz Kültü, Katolik Kilisesi özelinde incelenmiş, Katolikler için hem yaşarken hem de öldükten sonra önemli önderler olarak anılan azizlerin kültlerinin itikadî temelleri Katolik literatüründen faydalanılarak aktarılmıştır. Bir Hristiyan'ın aziz olma yönündeki motivasyonları anlaşılmaya çalışılmış ve aziz olmak için inanlıların izlediği yollar derlenmiştir. Kişiyi Kanonizasyon'a götüren azizlik itibarının oluşumu ve halk için taşıdığı değerler gözler önüne serilmiştir. Azizlik kavramının kilise ve inananlar açısından nasıl işlev gördüğü ve buradan ortaya çıkan kültün varlığı ortaya konulmuştur. Aziz olmak, aziz olarak bilinmek ve aziz ilan edilmek konuları "Hristiyanlıkta 'Kutsal Kişi' ve Azizlik", "İnananalar Açısından Azizler ve Azizlik" ve "Kilise Açısından Azizlik" şeklinde üç temel başlık altında aktarılarak, azizliğin ve Aziz Kültünün, Katolik Hristiyanlar için nasıl sistemli bir inanç haline geldiği açıklanmıştır. Pek çok inanç sistemi içerisinde azizliğe benzer 'Kutsal Kişi' mertebeleri bulunsa da Katolik Kilisesi, kişilerin kutsallığını resmi bir süreçle inceleyerek onaylayan tek dinî yapı olma bakımından özel bir konuma sahip olmuştur. Kilise, aziz kültünün suistimaline ve din/mezhep dışı eleştirilere karşı çeşitli tedbirler alarak Azizleştirme prosedürlerini hukuki bir sistem haline getirmiştir.

This thesis examines the Cult of Saints in Christianity specifically within the context of the Catholic Church. Drawing from Catholic literatüre, it presents a discussion of the theological foundations of the cults of saints, who are considered important spritual leaders for Catholics both during their lives and after their deaths. The research attempts to understand the Christian motivations to become a Saint, and brings together the paths followed by the faithful to attain sanctity. It also explains the development of the reputation of sanctity leading to canonization and its significance for the public. The study also illustrates how the concept of sanctity functions from the perspectives of the Church and the believers, thus revealing the existence of the cult that emerges from it. The research topic, presented under three main headings, studies essentially the ways of 'becoming a saint', 'being known as a saint', and 'being canonized'. While many belief systems include levels of 'Holly Person' similar to saints, the Catholic Church holds a unique position as the only religious institution that formally examines the sanctity of individuals and grants approval through an official process. The Church takes various measures to support the relationship between saints and believers in understanding Christianity and practicing religious rituals, thereby legalizing the procedures for canonization and guarding against the misuse of the cult of saints and non-denominational criticism.
