İznik Gölü sualtı bazilikası mezarları 2015-2017

Abstract

İznik jeopolitik konumu ve fiziksel koşullarının uygunluğu ile birçok topluma ev sahipliği yapmış ve tarihsel süreçte önemli gelişmelere tanıklık etmiştir. Hristiyanlık Dönemi için büyük öneme sahip olan kentte 2014’te hava fotoğrafları ışığında su altında kalmış olan bazilika planlı bir kilisenin kalıntıları tespit edilmiştir. 2015’te başlayan kazılarla İznik Gölü Sualtı Bazilikasında mezarlar olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Bu tez çalışması 2015-2017 yıllarında ele geçen mezarların arkeolojik ve antropolojik açılardan değerlendirilmesini amaçlamaktadır.

Due to its significant geopolitical location and convenient physical conditions, İznik has hosted a lot of civilizations throughout its history. In İznik which had great importance for the Christian Era, the ruins of a Christian church with basilica plan which were sunken under İznik Lake was discovered through the aerial photos in 2014. During the excavations which started in 2015, burials are identified in and outside the church. The main aim of this study is to examine the burials, which were uncovered during the 2015-2017 excavation seasons, both in archaeological and anthropological perspectives.
