Özet

The aim of this study is to determine the springtime concentration and emissions of ammonia (NH3), hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2) in a commercial sheep barn in the Bursa region of western Turkey. The pollutant gas concentrations and indoor climatic conditions, such as temperature, humidity and air velocity were measured continuously for four days in the middle of May in selected sheep barn. Pollutant gas in sheep barn were sampled at both the ventilation inlet and the ventilation exhaust in barn. Indoor temperature and relative humidity ranged between 16-27 °C and 46-88%. The daily average exhaust NH<inf>3</inf>, CO2 and H2S concentrations overall of study were 14 ppm, 998 ppm and 3, 9 ppb, respectively. Also, the spring emission rates of these pollutant gases were calculated. The daily average NH3 and H2S emissions from sheep barn were obtained as 160 mg/h and 73 μg/h, respectively. The pollutant gas concentrations inside barn were compared with health limit thresholds established in the Turkey and Europe. The some of NH3 concentration results in this study were exceed exposure limits in regulations. The results of this study will provide important knowledge for stakeholders of the sheep industry.
