Abstract

Heterotopic pregnancy is an uncommon situation that consists of simultaneous intrauterine and extrauterine pregnancies. The incidence of heterotopic pregnancy has increased recently with the improvement of artificial reproductive technologies (1-3%). We report a case of heterotopic cornual pregnancy diagnosed during routine antenatal examination after a successful invitro fertilization-embryo transfer cycle. Potassium chloride was injected into the heart of the cornual fetus at 10 weeks of gestation. After 16 weeks of the fetocide procedure, the intrauterine fetus was born by cesarean section. In selected cases of heterotopic pregnancy medical treatment could be an alternative approach to laparoscopy or laparotomy.
