The privatisation and market liberalisation of telecommunications in Turkey

Abstract

Information is increasingly a fundamental factor of production. The telecommunications sector is in need of reform, due to increasing globalination and rapid technological change. The success of reforms to date is measured by the extent to which they achieve sustainable growth and fundamental improvements. This article identifies the factors that make reform in this sector successful, and evaluates the potential for privatisation of the Turkish telecommunications sector from the point view of country risk, sector risk and company risk, all of which are used by global investors in evaluating investment opportunities and to assess the Turkish Telecommunications sector from the perspective of EU accession.
