A Diagnostic analysis of literature courses: A case study at Uludağ University

Abstract

The literature courses of the target language, which are still taught at Faculties of Education, are the subject matter of this study. In this diagnostic study, the general situation of English Literature courses taught at the Faculty of Education, Uludağ University was examined and the existing prob lems were put forward. In Chapter I, the place of literary texts in a foreign language teaching programme was emphasized, the problems in text-selection and the presentation were dis cussed. The criteria which are supposed to solve these problems were given and it was indicated that fruitful results in teaching of literature would be obtained by the help of these criteria. Chapter II provides a historical review of the utility of literary works for learners of a foreign lan guage and how teaching of literature and its close relation with teaching of a foreign language has been treated by sone methodologists. In Chapter III, the research design was presented. The statistical analysis of the research results was included in Chapter IV. The results of the research were discussed and sug gestion were included in Chapter V.

Eğitim Fakültelerinde halen öğretilmekte olan amaç dilin edebiyatı, bu çalışmanın özünü oluşturmaktadır. Bu belirleyici çalışmada, Uludağ Üniversitesi, Eğitim Fakültesinde verilen İngiliz Edebiyatı derslerinin genel durumu incelenmiş, var olan problemler ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Birinci bölümde edebi metinlerin yabancı dil öğretim programındaki yeri vurgulanmakta, metin seçimi ve öğretimindeki problemler tartışılmaktadır. Bu problemleri orta dan kaldırabileceği savunulan kriterler verilmekte ve bu kriterlerin kullanılması sonucu edebiyat öğretiminde verimli sonuçlar elde edilebileceği belirtilmektedir. İkinci bölümde edebiyat öğretiminin ve yabancı dil öğretimiyle olan yakın ilişkisinin nasıl değerlendirildiğine ilişkin tarihsel bir tarama yapılmaktadır. Üçüncü bölümde araştırma metodu sunulmaktadır. Araştırma sonuçlarının istatistiksel analizi Dördüncü bölümde verilmektedir. Besinci bölümde, araştırma sonuçları tartışılmakta ve öneriler getirilmektedir.
