The importance of chestnut and production in Turkey and world

Abstract

Although there is numerous scientific publication in our country on agricultural geography -one of the most important branches of economical geography- few publication on chestnut (castanea sativa) agriculture by our geographers exists. In this study, chestnut cultivation in the world is discussed from the agricultural point of view. Primary aim of the study is to introduce the reader the chestnut tree's ecological properties, geographical distribution, cultivation and production conditions, changes of production, importation and exportation in the world. In addition, enlightening information about the botanical properties, chemical composition, types and uses of chestnut, and the problems of its cultivationis given.
