Abstract

The basic characteristics and production methods of polyamide and aramid fibers by various techniques, the history of invention, structural differences between the types of them, and various plasma applications on aramid and polyamide fibers, are presented in this chapter. The physical, chemical, and mechanical effects of surface modification depend on the microstructure properties of the fibers, the type and different parameters of the plasma device used in the treatments. The chapter discusses the polymer microstructures that have an important role in dyeing/finishing applications as further processes and reviews how plasma treatments would influence the wettability, functionality, adhesion, and mechanical properties of polyamide and aramid fibers. The characterization and performance test results of modified fibers are reviewed here, including the latest developments and research carried out in this field of science.
