Abstract
Modern architecture, which is one of the important stages of change in the understanding of architectural design, has been read through the housing typology and evaluated in the context of conservation. Istanbul Bebek district, which includes modern housing examples, was chosen as the study area. Istanbul Bebek district, where rapid urbanization was seen in the 20th century, has unique characteristics such as its environmental and urban texture, history and architecture. For this reason, the purpose of the study is to evaluate and document the Bebek surroundings and modern residential buildings within the scope of architectural heritage and to develop conservation methods. The urban elements of the study area, its legal process, and its construction were examined in detail. The changes that the region went through in the process were examined on the basis of the legal framework, and the modernization process was read as a layer. The development of the urban legal process has been evaluated together with the purpose, result and effects of various laws and decisions, and the positive and negative effects on Bebek Region, which is the subject of the thesis, are classified. As a result of this, a field study was carried out on two different detailed study areas selected. In the field study, in addition to environmental, social and cultural studies, housing structures that are modern cultural heritage were documented with an inventory study and their typological values were determined. The findings were created by analyzing the analyzed data. In the light of these findings, which were evaluated within the scope of protection, intervention decisions were made in terms of structural, regional and usage. By considering the environmental, natural and urban texture of the region together, holistic sustainable urban conservation proposals have been developed.
