Serous or exudative retinal detachment is a common finding of a wide variety of local and systemic diseases. The main cause of subretinal fluid accumulation is damage to the blood-retina barrier. In this review, congenital and developmental ocular diseases as well as tumors of the retina and choroid are discussed as causes of serous retinal detachment.
