dc.description.abstract | Background: The prevalence of being overweight and obesity is increasing at an alarming rate throughout the world. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is one of the most important issues to be investigated in obesity. The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity, reliability, and factorial structure of the Turkish version of the Patient Reported Outcomes in Obesity questionnaire (PROS).Methods: A total of 80 participants (40 overweight, 40 obese) were included in the study. The Impact of Weight on Quality of Life short version (IWQOL-lite) was used to determine validity. The PROS was readministered to 20 subjects after a 1-week interval for reliability analysis. Results: There was a high correlation between the PROS and IWQOL-lite mean scores (-0.855, p < 0.001). The test-retest reliability showed that the intraclass correlation coefficients (between 0.754 and 0.983) were significant for PROS. Factor analysis demonstrated a three-factor structure. Conclusions: PROS is a practical tool that is up-to-date, short, and easy to understand, implement, and calculate. The results of this study demonstrated that PROS is a valid and reliable questionnaire for measuring HRQoL in an overweight and obese Turkish population. | |
