Puzzles of social studies programme "people, places and environments" learning field concepts

Abstract

In recent years, studies on students' understanding of the fundamental concepts and misconceptions have increased. The present study aimed at developing crossword puzzles related to geography concepts. First of all, the geography concepts in "People, Places and Environments" learning field which had been prepared according to 2004 Social Studies Programme had been determined. After that, a crossword puzzle which related to unit of "The Place We Live" had been developed for fourth grade students and one more crossword puzzle which related to unit of "Lets Know Our Region" had been developed for fifth grade students. It could be beneficial if primary school teachers use these crosswords after instruction of the units.
