Genç yetişkin kadınların ebeveynleşme deneyimi ve beden imajı arasındaki ilişki: Mükemmeliyetçilik ve benlik saygısının aracı rolü

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, ebeveynleşme deneyimi ile beden imajı arasındaki ilişkiyi ve bu ilişkide mükemmeliyetçilik ve benlik saygısının aracı rolünü incelemektir. Çalışmanın örneklem grubu 18-30 yaş aralığında üniversite öğrencisi olan 225 genç yetişkin kadından oluşmaktadır. Çalışma kapsamında katılımcılara ‘Kişisel Bilgi Formu’, ‘Zung Depresyon Ölçeği’, ‘Ebeveynleşme Envanteri’, Beden İmajı Ölçeği’, ‘Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği’ ve ‘Frost Çok Boyutlu Mükemmeliyetçilik Ölçeği’ çevrimiçi olarak sunulmuştur. Toplanan veriler ile hipotezlerle uyumlu istatistiksel analizler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Yapılan korelasyon testi sonucunda, ebveynleşmenin ebeveyn odaklı ebeveynleşme ve algılanan yarar alt boyutları ile beden imajı arasında anlamlı ilişki olduğu tespit edilmiştir. İlişkiye aracılık ettiği düşünülen değişkenler ile aracılık analizleri uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular ebeveynleşme ve beden imajı arasındaki ilişkide mükemmeliyetçiliğin ve bazı alt boyutlarının aracılık ettiğini göstermektedir. Benlik saygısının aracı rolü incelendiğinde ise ebeveynleşmeden algılanan yarar ve beden imajı arasındaki ilişkide aracılık ettiği bulunmuştur. Sonuçlar doğrultusunda çocukluk dönemindeki ebeveynleşme deneyiminin genç yetişkin kadınlarda mükemmeliyetçi eğilimlerle, benlik saygısındaki değişimlerle ve olumsuz beden imajıyla ilişkili olduğu görülmüştür. Bu durum ebeveynleşme deneyiminin yalnızca çocukluk dönemiyle sınırlı kalmadığını ve yetişkin hayatını birçok yönden etkileyebileceğini göstermektedir. Çalışma bu sebeple genç yetişkin kadınların psikolojik iyi oluşları üzerinde ebeveynleşmenin etkilerinin anlaşılmasına katkı sunmaktadır.

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the parentification experience and body image, as well as the mediating roles of perfectionism and self-esteem in this relationship. The sample of the study consists of 225 female young adults, aged between 18 and 30, who are university students. Within the scope of the study, participants were administered the “Personal Information Form,” the “Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale,” the “Parentification Inventory,” the “Body Image Scale,” the “Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale,” and the “Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale” through an online survey. Statistical analyses were conducted in line with the hypotheses using the collected data. The results of the correlation analysis revealed that the parent-focused parentification and perceived benefits of parentification were significantly associated with body image. Mediation analyses were conducted using the variables hypothesized to mediate this relationship. The findings indicated that perfectionism and certain subdimensions of perfectionism mediated the relationship between parentification and body image. Furthermore, when examining the mediating role of self-esteem, it was found to mediate the relationship between perceived benefits of parentification and body image. The results indicate that childhood experiences of parentification are associated with perfectionistic tendencies, changes in self-esteem, and negative body image among young adult women. This suggests that the impact of parentification is not limited to childhood but may affect various aspects of adult life. Therefore, the study contributes to a better understanding of the effects of parentification on the psychological well-being of young adult women.
