Abstract

The present study was undertaken to determine the Turkish people's cognitive level and perception on the concept of animal rights. For this aim, A questionnaire was developed for collecting data and was applied to participants in seven provinces which are considered to represent geographical regions of Turkey. The survey was applied by interviewing with 2016 participants individually. The responses to the questions of animal love, identification of animals, animal ownership and eating habits are grouped themselves after the evaluation of survey data and analysed statistically. As a results, positive proportion was determined by the parameters of animal love, contact with the animals at home, accepting the animals as an individual and being vegetarian (P<0.001).
