Çağdaş zihin felsefesinde alternatif bir kuram: Bedenlenmiş bilinç

Abstract

Bu tez, çağdaş zihin felsefesinde bilinci açıklamaya yönelik düalist ve fizikalist yaklaşımların sınırlarını eleştirerek, fenomenoloji temelli bedenlenmiş bilinç kuramını alternatif bir çözüm olarak öne sürmektedir. İlk bölümde ele alınan klasik kuramların ortak yönü, fenomenal bilinç ve birinci şahıs deneyimini açıklamada yetersiz kalmaları ve bedenin beyin harici yönlerini sistematik biçimde ihmal etmeleridir; bu bağlamda analitik zihin felsefesi ile fenomenoloji arasında yeni bir senteze ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Tez bu nedenle ikinci bölümde fenomenolojiye yönelmekte; Husserl’in yönelimsellik vurgusu ile Merleau- Ponty’nin “yaşayan beden” kavramı doğrultusunda bilincin yalnızca zihinsel değil, bedensel olarak da kurulduğu gösterilmektedir. Üçüncü bölümde ise “beden bilinci nasıl şekillendirir?” sorusu üzerinden bedenlenmiş semantik, bedenlenmiş biliş, 4E biliş kuramları ve nörofenomenoloji aracılığıyla, bilincin beyin merkezli olmayan, bütüncül ve çevreye gömülü bir yapı taşıdığı savunulmaktadır. Sonuç olarak tez, fenomenolojinin sunduğu kavramsal olanaklar aracılığıyla bilinci indirgemeci yaklaşımların ötesinde, ontolojik ve deneyimsel boyutlarıyla beden merkezli bir çerçevede yeniden düşünmeyi amaçlamaktadır.

This thesis critically addresses the limitations of dualist and physicalist approaches to consciousness in contemporary philosophy of mind and proposes the phenomenologically grounded theory of embodied consciousness as an alternative framework. The first chapter examines classical theories that fail to account for phenomenal consciousness and first-person experience, while systematically overlooking the role of bodily structures beyond the brain; this reveals a need for a synthesis between analytic philosophy of mind and phenomenological approaches. Accordingly, the second chapter engages with phenomenology, demonstrating-through Husserl’s account of intentionality and his distinction between Leib and Körper, as well as Merleau-Ponty’s theory of the “lived body” -that consciousness is not merely mentally constituted, but also shaped through bodily existence. The third chapter develops the question “How does the body shape consciousness?” through discussions of embodied semantics, embodied cognition, 4E theories of mind, and neurophenomenology, arguing that consciousness is not reducible to brain-based processes but must be understood as holistic, environmentally embedded, and bodily in nature. In conclusion, the thesis seeks to move beyond reductive models of consciousness by reconceptualizing its ontological and experiential dimensions through a body-centered framework informed by phenomenology.
