The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of glucose precursors on blood parameters, milk yield and composition in dairy cows. For this study, 26 multiparous and 34 primiparous Holstein cows were used in randomized block design to evaluate the feeding glycerol (G), propylene glycol (PG), and water (C) from 7 d prepartum to 21 d in milk (DIM). Treatments were 300ml water (C), 450 ml glycerol (G), and 300 ml propylene glycol were drenched after morning feeding. Milk yields were recorded as daily, milk samples were analyzed for fat, protein, lactose from all cattle for two consecutive days every week compositions until the 100 DIM. In other hand, blood samples were taken for glucose at last week of gestation, day calving, week 1, 2 and 3 in postpartum. There was no difference between the groups in glucose levels. However, milk yield of C (35.06 L/day) group was 1 L higher than G (34.18 L/day) group and 1,5 L higher than PG (33.46 L/day) group (P<0,05). Milk fat was found to be higher in PG group cows (3.67%) compared to C (3.44%) and G (3.46%) cows (P<0.05). However, milk proteins of the C (3.32%) group were higher than the PG (3.15%) group. Milk yield and milk protein were found to be higher in the untreated C group than in the G and PG groups, and differences were found between the groups in terms of milk fat. It was concluded that there is a need for further investigation of the effects of glucose procurers such as G and PG, especially on the rumen.

Satellite remote sensing-based irrigation performance assessment of the Mustafakemalpaşa irrigation area in Bursa, Türkiye
(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2023-01-20) Gündoğdu, Kemal Sulhi; Ziraat Fakültesi; Biyosistem Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0002-5591-4788
Given the increasing pressure on water for agricultural irrigation, coupled with unpredictable climate conditions, it is critically important to improve irrigation water management for sustain crop production. Satellite remote sensing (RS)-based approaches are helpful for investigating cost-effectively spatio-temporal variations of irrigation performance at scales ranging from individual fields to the entire scheme level. Using Landsat images within the Python module for the Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land model, it was investigated the spatiotemporal performance variations of the Mustafakemalpaşa irrigation area during 2020 cropping season. Actual evapotranspiration (ETa), Uniformity of Water Consumption (UWC), and Crop Water Productivity (CWP) performance indicators were evaluated. The results showed that the performance of the Mustafakemalpaşa varied depending on the geographical position in the irrigation area. Our findings highlight the opportunity to improve the uniformity of water consumption in the area. Based on this study, PySEBAL can serve as basis for improved Mustafakemalpaşa irrigation water management in decision support tools.

The effects of different glucose precursors on rumen and blood parameters in dairy cows
(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2023-01-20) Altaş, Tolga; Abdullahoğlu, Esra; Bigen, Ozan; Orman, Abdülkadir; Gençoğlu, Hıdır; Veteriner Fakültesi; Zootekni Ana Bilim Dalı; 0000-0002-2567-1033; 0000-0001-9138-4422; 0000-0003-1067-2874
The purpose of this research is to determine the drenching different glucose precursors, which are propylene glycol and glycerol, on rumen volatile fatty acids (VFA), blood glucose and insulin levels and dry matter intake (DMI) of dairy cows. Three rumen cannulated lactating Holstein cows were divided into propylene glycol, glycerol and control groups, according to the 3x3 Latin square method. Blood and rumen samples were taken before and at certain minutes after drinking the liquids. The amount of DMI by the cows was recorded daily. The measured DMI value was found to be the highest (22,9 kg/day) in the glycerol group and the lowest (17,3 kg/day) in the propylene glycol group (P<0,02). The blood insulin level (22,2 ng/dL) in the propylene glycol group was higher than the glycerol (18,5 ng/dL) and control (16,8 ng/dL) group (P<0,05). Rumen propionic acid values of the propylene and glycerol groups were higher than the control group (P<0,05). From this research, it is concluded that these effects should be considered in the use of propylene glycol due to the decrease in DMI along with the increase in blood glucose and insulin levels.
