Item 12. Özellikle toplumumuza özgü atlasın bir an önce hazırlanması gerektiği sonucuna varıldı.Item 30 years retrospective review of tuberculosis cases in a tuberculosis dispensary in Bursa/Nilufer, Turkey (1985-2014): Changes of epidemics(Mattioli 1885, 2016-10-23) Özgüç, Sedef; Yıldız, Timur; Pala, Kayıhan; Gerçek, Harika; Taş, Tuncay Aydın; Çakır, Rukiye; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Halk Sağlığı Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-0983-4904; 0000-0002-3816-4874; F-7816-2013; 6603159416; 36543842000; 57193114540; 56414706200Objective: The aim of this study is to describe the epidemiological and clinical aspects of patients who applied to the Bursa Nilufer Tuberculosis Dispensary by investigating the trends in epidemics over three decades. Method: In this retrospective observational study, the records of all tuberculosis cases (1630 patients) treated in the last 30 years (1985-2014) at the Bursa Nilufer Tuberculosis Dispensary were examined and statistically analyzed. Results: Males comprised 65.2% of the patients. The ages of the patients ranged from 1 to 87 years, and the mean age was 37.4 (95% CI: 36.6-38.2). Among the cases, 86.7% were new infections and 74.1% were pulmonary tuberculosis. In the last decade, the education level, the percentage of patients who had received a BCG vaccination, the proportion of women and active employees among them increased (p<0.05), while it decreased among men (p<0.05). Clinical symptoms accompanying TB such as weakness, anorexia, weight loss, and cough, decreased to a statistically significant degree (p<0.05). In the last decade, the mortality rate was 3.6% and increased compared with previous decades (p<0.05). Mortality was higher among patients who were elderly, male, did not have a BCG scar or had a chronic disease (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study adds information about the change of TB epidemics in Turkey in the last 30 years. Further studies are needed to determine the risk factors associated with tuberculosis mortality and to evaluate the effectiveness control programs of this disease.Item 5′ MLL gene deletion in a case with childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia(Oxford University, 2010-02) Gülten, Tuna; Yakut, Tahsin; Güneş, Adalet Meral; Demirkaya, Metin; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Tıbbi Genetik Anabilim Dalı.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; 6505944216; 6602802424; 24072843300; 24331130000Myeloid/lymphoid leukemia (MLL) gene rearrangements are high risk cytogenetic characteristics of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Translocations of this gene are well defined, and their impact on the patient's prognosis is well known, but deletions of the same region are rare, and little is known about their prognostic significance and the significance of their accompanying translocations. Here we present a case of childhood ALL with a deletion of the 5' region of the MILL gene detected by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis, This result also confirmed the sensitivity and efficiency of FISH analysis.Item 5. The defect has been described in human beings, dogs, cats, pigs, and horses.Case presentationThis paper describes the case of a complete atrioventricular canal defect in a four-year-old intact male pet ferret (Mustela putorius furo), which was presented due to posterior weakness, ataxia, and decreased appetite. A loud systolic murmur, dyspnea, and hind limb paraparesis were detected during the clinical examination. Thoracic radiographs showed generalized cardiomegaly and lung edema. ECG showed sinus rhythm with prolonged P waves and QRS complexes. Echocardiography showed a large atrial septal defect, atrioventricular dysplasia, and a ventricular septal defect. Palliative treatment with oxygen, furosemide, spironolactone, enalapril, diltiazem, and supportive care was chosen as the therapy of choice. The ferret recovered gradually during hospitalization. A follow-up examination at three and six months showed stabilization of cardiac function.ConclusionsTo the authors knowledge, this is the first time an atrioventricular canal defect has been described in a pet ferret.Publication A case report of primary breast angiosarcoma: Clinical presentation and outcome after adjuvant radiotherapy(Aves, 2020-10-01) Altmisdörtoğlu, Özgür; Andrieu, Meltem Nalca; Gökgöz, Mustafa Şehsuvar; GÖKGÖZ, MUSTAFA ŞEHSUVAR; Yalçınkaya, Ulviye; YALÇINKAYA, ÜLVİYE; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Patoloji Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Genel Cerrahi Anabilim Dalı.; AAH-8924-2021Angiosarcomas of the breast are infrequent subtypes of sarcoma that are often diagnosed after radiation therapy for primary breast cancer. Primary angiosarcomas (PAS) are rare tumors that constitute 0.04% of all malignant breast tumors. We report a case of a 40-year-old woman with a lump in the right breast and diagnosed as angiosarcoma by pathological evaluation. She underwent simple mastectomy followed by adjuvant radiation. She is alive and disease-free for 66 months although tumor size was large and one surgical margin was tumor positive. Breast angiosarcoma is often in advanced stage at diagnosis and tends to recur locally. Although surgical methods constitute the primary treatment, we believe that a multidisciplinary treatment strategy should be used in high-risk patients with large primary tumors and tumor positive margins.Publication A comparative study of recent non-traditional methods for mechanical design optimization (vol 27, pg 1031, 2020)(Springer, 2021-01-01) Yıldız, Ali Rıza; Abderazek, Hammoudi; Mirjalili, Seyedali; YILDIZ, ALİ RIZA; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Otomotiv Mühendisliği Bölümü; F-7426-2011Publication A comparative treatability study for textile wastewater: Agricultural waste adsorbent versus activated carbon(Hard, 2020-01-01) Kılıç, Melike Yalılı; YALILI KILIÇ, MELİKE; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Çevre Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0001-7050-6742; AAG-8505-2021This study aimed to remove color from textile wastewater taken from a common effluent channel in Bursa, western Turkey. For this purpose, chemical coagulation with various coagulants including Al-2(SO4)center dot 18H(2)O, FeCl3 center dot 6H(2)O and FeSO4 center dot 7H(2)O was applied, followed by adsorption processes. In the coagulation experiments, the maximum color removal efficiency (48%) was obtained at pH 6.5 with a 300 mg/L dose of Al-2(SO4)(3)center dot 18H(2)O. The adsorption experiments were conducted using 5 g each of agricultural waste adsorbent (corncob) particles with dimensions of 0.25 mm, 0.50 mm, 0.85 mm and 1.25 mm on the chemically treated wastewater samples, and color removal efficiencies of up to 100% were obtained. In addition, adsorption columns were designed according to the experimental data. As a result of the design calculations, 84 tons of the corncob are required to effectively remove color from 10,000 m(3) of textile wastewater. In addition to the color removal efficiencies of the applied processes, the associated operating costs were also calculated.Item A global multicenter study on reference values: 2. Exploration of sources of variation across the countries(Elsevier, 2017-04) Ichihara, Kiyoshi; Barth, Julian H; Klee, George; Shimizu, Yoshihisa; Xia, Liangyu; Hoffmann, Mariza; Shah, Swarup; Matsha, Tandi; Wassung, Janette; Smit, Francois; Ruzhanskaya, Anna; Straseski, Joely; Bustos, Daniel N; Kimura, Shogo; Takahashi, Aki; Özarda, Yeşim; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Tıbbi Biyokimya Anabilim Dalı.; AAL-8873-2021; 35741320500Objectives: The intent of this study, based on a global multicenter study of reference values (RVs) for serum analytes was to explore biological sources of variation (SVs) of the RVs among 12 countries around the world. Methods: As described in the first part of this paper, RVs of 50 major serum analytes from 13,396 healthy individuals living in 12 countries were obtained. Analyzed in this study were 23 clinical chemistry analytes and 8 analytes measured by immunoturbidimetry. Multiple regression analysis was performed for each gender, country by country, analyte by analyte, by setting four major SVs (age, BMI, and levels of drinking and smoking) as a fixed set of explanatory variables. For analytes with skewed distributions, log-transformation was applied. The association of each source of variation with RVs was expressed as the partial correlation coefficient (rp). Results: Obvious gender and age-related changes in the RVs were observed in many analytes, almost consistently between countries. Compilation of age-related variations of RVs after adjusting for between-country differences revealed peculiar patterns specific to each analyte. Judged from the rp, BMI related changes were observed for many nutritional and inflammatory markers in almost all countries. However, the slope of linear regression of BMI vs. RV differed greatly among countries for some analytes. Alcohol and smoking-related changes were observed less conspicuously in a limited number of analytes. Conclusion: The features of sex, age, alcohol, and smoking-related changes in RVs of the analytes were largely comparable worldwide. The finding of differences in BMI-related changes among countries in some analytes is quite relevant to understanding ethnic differences in susceptibility to nutritionally related diseases.Publication A government devoid of strong leadership: A neoclassical realist explanation of Turkey's Iraq War decision in 2003(Center Foreign Policy & Peace Research, 2021-07) Yılmaz, Samet; YILMAZ, SAMET; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Uluslararası İlişkiler Bölümü; 0000-0002-5232-5435; Q-5077-2016This study deals with Turkeys Iraq War Decision that led up to the March 1 Parliamentary Motion Crisis in 2003 from the perspective of neoclassical realism, which analyzes the interaction between systemic and unit-level variables. The United States requested Turkey's collaboration in the war against Iraq. The Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government initially sought a peaceful settlement hut eventually decided to align with the United States. Systemic and structural factors made cooperation with the United States an imperative for Turkey, which may be classified as a secondary state in the regional context. While the domestic political environment was favorable for the Turkish government to reach such a decision, it was hindered by the Grand National Assembly of 'Turkey (GNAT). In this framework the study has two primary purposes. The first is to prove that in restrictive international environments where opportunities and threats are clear and the decision-making process is constrained by time, domestic divisions may matter in foreign policy and prevail over the systemic imperative, contrary to conventional expectations. The second is to demonstrate that in a restrictive international milieu, strong leadership, a factor underappreciated by neoclassical realists, is essential even for single-party governments, which are normally expected to have greater autonomy in democratic parliamentary systems, to formulate foreign policy.Publication A homozygous synonymous variant likely cause of severe ciliopathy phenotype(MDPI, 2021-06-01) Tuncel, Gülten; Kaymakamzade, Bahar; Engindereli, Yeliz; Temel, Şehime Gülsün; Ergören, Mahmut Çerkez; TEMEL, ŞEHİME GÜLSÜN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Tıbbi Genetik Anabilim Dalı; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Histoloji ve Embriyoloji Anabilim Dalı; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Sağlık Bilimleri Enstitüsü/Translasyonel Tıp Anabilim Dalı; 0000-0002-9802-0880; AAG-8385-2021Joubert syndrome (OMIM #213300) is a rare neurodevelopmental disease characterized by abnormal breathing patterns, intellectual impairment, ocular findings, renal cysts, and hepatic fibrosis. It is classified as a ciliopathy disease, where cilia function or structure in various organs are affected. Here, we report a 17-year-old male whose main clinical findings are oculomotor apraxia and truncal ataxia. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed the characteristic molar tooth sign of Joubert syndrome. He also has obsessive-compulsive disorder concomitantly, which is not a known feature of Joubert syndrome. Molecular genetic analysis revealed a homozygous c.2106G>A (p.(Thr702=)) variation in the Abelson helper integration 1 (AHI1) gene and another homozygous c.1739C>T (p.Thr580Ile) variation in the coiled-coil and C2 domain-containing protein 1A (CC2D1A) gene. Even though certain AHI1 variations were previously associated with Joubert syndrome (JS), c.2106G>A (p.(Thr702=)) was only reported in one patient in trans with another known pathogenic JS variant. The CC2D1A c.1739C>T (p.Thr580Ile) variation, on the other hand, has been reported to cause autosomal recessive nonsyndromic mental retardation, but there are conflicting interpretations about its pathogenicity. Overall, to our knowledge, this is the first patient representing a severe ciliopathy phenotype caused by a homozygous synonymous AHI1 variation. Further investigations should be performed to determine any involvement of the CC2D1A gene in ciliopathy phenotypes such as Joubert syndrome.Publication A laboratory study of the acaricidal, repellent and oviposition deterrent effects of three botanical oils on Tetranychus urticae (Koch, 1836) (Acari: Tetranychidae)(Ege Üniversitesi, 2020-04-25) Keskin, Gizem; Kumral, Nabi Alper; Kacar, Oya; Keskin, Gizem; KUMRAL, NABİ ALPER; KAÇAR, OYA; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü/Entomoloji Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Bitki Koruma Bölümü.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Tarla Bitkileri Bölümü.; 0000-0001-9442-483X; A-1388-2019; AAG-7449-2021; KGA-9390-2024The biological activities of essential oil obtained from water distillation process of basil leaves [Ocimum basilicum L. (Sapindales: Meliaceae)] and a commercial neem oil product (Nimbecidine) [Azadirachta indica (A. Juss, 1830) (Sapindales: Meliaceae)] were assessed against two-spotted spider mites, Tetranychus urticae (Koch, 1836) (Atari: Tetranychidae) using a residual method on leaf disc under laboratory conditions at Bursa Uludag University during 2018-2019. The lethal concentrations (LC50 and LC90) of Nimbecidine, chinaberry and basil oils were estimated as 0.8 and 1.8 mg/L, 4.0 and 6.9%, 5.4 and 11.7%, respectively, 72 h after treatment. The lethal times (LT50 and LT90) of Nimbecidine (1 mg/L), chinaberry (6%) and the basil (8.4%) were 64 and 107 h, 41 and 73 h, 65 and 110 h, respectively. The females had a strong aversion to bean leaf surfaces sprayed with the sublethal concentrations of Nimbecidine (0.125-0.75 mg/L), chinaberry (0.75-3%) and basil (0.7-1.4%) oils. Significant decreases were recorded in the number of eggs laid on bean leaves sprayed with the sublethal concentrations for Nimbecidine (0.031-0.5 mg/L), chinaberry (0.75-3%) and the basil (1.4-5.6%) oils compared with unsprayed bean leaves. The study showed that the assessed concentrations of the oils obtained from the basil and chinaberry compared to the commercial botanical product (Nimbecidine) have similar biological effects on T. urticae.Publication A national, multicenter, secondary data use study evaluating efficacy and retention of first-line biologic treatment with tocilizumab in patients with rheumatoid arthritis in real-life setting from Turkbio registry(Bmj Publishing Group, 2021-06-01) Yazici, A.; Isik, O. In this research, the effects of the mass flow rate and number of channels on the maximum temperature and pressure drop are investigated for multi-channel serpentine cooling plates. A new approach with LHS and GRA is used to obtain the optimum ranges of design parameters to minimize the pressure drop, maximum temperature and to maximize the convective heat transfer coefficient. In this study, the values of the parameters for the numerical modeling are obtained by the experiments. The width and height of the serpentine channel and mass flow rate are chosen as input parameters and the pressure drop, convective heat transfer coefficient and maximum temperature are selected as output parameters. Comparing with the base design, the optimized design provided up to 40.3% decrease in the pressure drop with a penalty of 11.3% decrease in the convective heat transfer coefficient with a slight decrease in the maximum temperature. The proposed approach can be used to design better cooling plates to keep the batteries in safe temperature ranges and to reduce the power consumption by optimizing the pressure drop and maximum temperature values.Publication A new approach to automatically find and fix erroneous labels in dependency parsing treebanks(Zarka Private Univ, 2021-05-01) Bilgin, Metin; BİLGİN, METİN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Bilgisayar Mühendisliği Bölümü; AAH-2049-2021Dependency Parsing (DP) is the existence of sub-term/upper-term relations between the words that make up that sentence for each sentence in the text. DP serves to produce meaningful information for high-level applications. Correct labeling of the text corpus used in DP studies is very important. There will be mistakes in the results of the studies that will be performed with the wrongly-labeled text corpus. If text corpus is labeled manually or automatically by human beings, then faulty cases will occur. As a result of the cases that may arise from human factors or annotations used for labeling, faulty labels will be on freebanks. In order to prevent these errors, detection, and correction of possible faulty labeling is very important in terms of increasing the accuracy of the studies to be carried out. Manual correction of possible faulty labels requires great effort and time. The purpose of this study is to create a model that automatically finds possible faulty labels and offers new label suggestions for faulty labels. With the help of the proposed model, it is aimed to detect and correct possible faulty labels that are included in a text corpus, and to increase consistency among the text corpus of the same language. With the help of the developed model, suggesting new labels for faulty labels by a language expert will be a great convenient for the specialist. Another advantage of the model is that the developed model provides a language-independent structure. It has succeeded in obtaining successful results in finding and correcting potentially faulty labels in experimental studies for Turkish. An increase in accuracy has been detected in studies carried out for languages other than Turkish. In investigating the accuracy of the results obtained by the system, the results were analyzed with the help of 10 different language experts.Publication A new approach to measure parcel shapes for land consolidation(Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam Üniversitesi Rektörluğü, 2021-01-01) Arslan, Fırat; Değirmenci, Hasan; Akkaya Aslan, Şerife Tülin; Jurgenson, Evelin; AKKAYA ASLAN, ŞERİFE TÜLİN; 0000-0001-5129-8642; 0000-0003-2103-4333; N-8095-2019; ACD-0280-2022; N-9721-2013Land consolidation (LC) is of significant importance and is an application that, decreases land fragmentation level and deformed parcels, which reduce agricultural production. increasing fuel consumption and labor cost in the agriculture sector. The present research focuses on parcel shapes and investigates a new index measuring complexity of parcels. The most commonly used indices (fractal dimension, shape index, form factor. areal form factor, area perimeter ratios. and the number of points) are compared wit h the new shape index. The new shape index is calculated with the parcel's area and minimum bounding geometry of the parcel using geographic informal ion systems. The new approach was applied to the cadastral data consisting of different types of parcel shapes before LC in a village in Mersin, Turkey. The new shape index showed a good performance in terms of measuring shape complexity and is easily applicable. The presented method may be used to assess LC projects or to determine priority areas for I.C.Publication A new characterization of curves in minkowski 4-SPACE E 1 4(Univ Nis, 2020-01-01) Kisi, Ilim; Öztürk, Günay; Arslan, Kadri; ARSLAN, KADRİ; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi/Matematik Bölümü; AAG-8775-2021In this study, we attend to the curves whose position vectors are written as a linear combination of their Serret-Frenet vectors in Minkowski 4-space E-1(4). Both Achilles tendons of 23 female Wistar-Albino rats weighing between 350 and 450 grams were cut and repaired. On the right side, Interceed absorbable adhesion barriers were wrapped around the repaired tendon (group I). On the left, the same procedures were applied except for the Interceed wrapping and these were grouped as control (group II). Animals were sacrificed at postoperative day 28 and macroscopic and histological examination was performed. All the animals survived and no tendon rupture was observed. No wound dehiscence, wound infection or exposure of repaired tendons occurred. Macroscopically, there were three (13.1%) tendons without adhesion formation and 20 (86.9%) tendons with inferior adhesion formation in group I; on the other hand, there were 16 tendons (69.5%) with medium grade adhesion formation and seven tendons (30.5%) with severe peritendinous adhesion formation in group II (control group) (p < 0.05). Histologically, adhesion formation was absent in 11 tendons (47.8%) and slight in 12 tendons (52.2%) in group I; while in group II, it was slight in two (8.6%), moderate in 15 (65.2%) and severe in six tendons (26.2%) (p < 0.05). Sixteen (69.5%) of 23 tendons in group I and 11 (47.8%) of 23 tendons in group II showed no inflammatory reaction (p < 0.05). Nineteen (82.6%) tendons in group I and only one tendon in group II showed excellent to good tendon healing (p=0.00). According to our results, we feel that Interceed may have an intraoperative role to play in the reduction of adhesions after surgical tendon repair. This study suggests that absorbable oxidised regenerated cellulose merits further evaluation as a potential treatment to inhibit the formation of peritendinous adhesions. Rigorous and extensive controlled trials should be undertaken on patients undergoing tendon repair with or without this barrier.Item A new monoid construction under crossed products(Springer, 2013-12) Emin, Ahmet; Ateş, Firat; İkikardeş, Sebahattin; Cangül, İsmail Naci; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi/Matematik Bölümü.; 57189022403In this paper we define a new monoid construction under crossed products for given monoids.
