Item A review of studies on Stress physiology of some fruits and vegetables(Uludağ Üniversitesi, 1997) Eriş, Atilla; Sivritepe, Nuray; Sivritepe, H. Özkan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Bahçe Bitkileri Bölümü.Turkey has different ecological regions and a wide range of species and cultivar richness in horticultural crops adapted to these regions. However, early spring frosts cause a considerable amount of yield in the regions that have temperate and subtropical climates. On the other hand, drought stress occurs in horticultural crops during summer, in the regions where precipitation is either irregular or insufficient. Recently, salinity and alkalinity have alsa become serioııs problems in agricultural lands of Turkey. Therefore, we have conducted research on these environmental stresses which occur in horticultural crops. Studies that we have carried out in the last 20 years have been compiled in this review under the topics of low-temperature stress, drought stress and salt stress.Item Somaclonal variation and factors affecting somaclonal variation(Uludağ Üniversitesi, 1997) Dağüstü, Nazan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi.Inefficient selection and screening procedure and lack of genetic variation in some varieties reveal the necessity of finding new sources for selection of desirable variants in plant breeding. Although mutation techniques and wild species obtained from gene banks have been used for increasing genetic variation, somaclonal variation (genetic variation induced by cell and tissue culture) offers a great opportunity to increase the genetic variations of crops. The occurrence of somaclonal variation has been stressed by numerous researchers and displayed in many cropl Somaclonal variation is successfully applied for selection of agronomically important traits such as disease and stress resistant variants in plant breeding. Factors feeling somaclonal variation are described in this review.
