dc.description.abstractMakalenin amacı, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun son yıllarından günümüze kadar olan dönemde, Türkiye’deki ulusal kimlikleşme sürecine odaklanmak ve aydınlar ya da siyasi parti liderlerinin ulusal kimliği nasıl şekillendirebildiğinin altını çizmektir. Zamanın ihtiyaçlarına paralel olarak, ulusal kimlik inşasında Osmanlıcılık, İslamcılık ve Türkçülük gibi farklı yaklaşımlar benimsenmiş ve vatandaşlık, din ya da etnik köken-temelli söylemler insanları birarada tutmak amacıyla kullanılmıştır. Cumhuriyet döneminde ise siyasi parti liderleri kendi partilerinin değerleriyle uyumlu olarak ulusal kimliği tanımlamış ve ulusal kimlikleşme sürecine etki etmiştir. Kısa bir dönemde gerçekleşen bu gelişmeler, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin mevcut ulusal kimliğinin hem etno-kültürel hem sivil kimlikleşme özellikleri içermesine neden olmuştur. Bu ikilik ulusal kimliği kırılgan hale getirmekte ve “Türk” ve “Türkiyeli” kavramlarına ilişkin tartışmaya ve etnik/dini azınlık grupların Türkiye toplumuna uyum sağlayamamasına neden olmaktadır. dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the article is to focus on national identity formation process in Turkey from the last years of the Ottoman Empire to the present day, and to underline how intellectuals or political party leaders shape the national identity. Parallel to the needs of the time, different approaches as Ottomanism, Islamism and Turkism were adopted in national identity construction, and citizenship, religion or ethnic originbased discourses were used to keep people together. In the Republican period, political party leaders defined the national identity in line with the values of their own political parties, and influenced the national identity formation process. These developments which happened in a short time led to the inclusion of both ethnocultural and civil features into the Republic of Turkey’s current national identity. This duality makes national identity fragile, and causes the debate on “Turkish” and “citizen of the Republic of Turkey” concepts, and the integration problems of ethnic/religious minority groups into the society in Turkey. This article is an important resource for people who are interested in the national identity formation process of the Republic of Turkey, political party identities, inter-political party relations, and current socio-political developments.en_US
