Abstract
Bu çalışmada, örnek olay yönteminin öğrencilerin yaşam temelli sorulardaki akademik başarılarına etkisi araştırılmıştır. Nitel verilerin ağırlıklı yer aldığı ve nicel verilerle desteklenen karma araştırma yöntemlerinden, keşfedici sıralı desen uygulaması kullanılmıştır. Çalışma, 2022- 2023 eğitim öğretim yılı ikinci döneminde 8. sınıfta öğrenim gören 6öğrencinin katılımı ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın başında ve sonunda öğrencilerin fen bilgisi dersine karşı tutum ve becerileri hakkında veri toplama amacıyla gözlem, görüşme ve yaşam temelli sorulardan oluşan akademik başarı testi uygulanmıştır. Öğrenciler hakkında önverilere ulaşıldıktan sonra özgün olarak “Madde ve Endüstri ünitesine yönelik hazırlanan örnek olaylar, 8 haftalık bir öğrenim sürecinde öğrencilere uygulanmıştır. Nitel veriler, içerik analizi yöntemi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Veriler ortak bir havuzda toplanarak tema, alt tema, kod ve frekanslar belirlenmiştir. Çalışmanın nicel verilerinin analizinde ön test ve son test grubuna ait veriler Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney U yöntemleriyle analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular ışığında araştırmanın sonucunda; örnek olay öğretim öğretim yöntemiyle gerçekleştirilen fen bilgisi uygulamalarının yaşam temelli sorular üzerinde akademik başarıyı olumlu yönde etkilediği ortaya çıkmıştır. Örnek olay yönteminin etkisiyle öğrencilerin yaşam temelli sorular üzerindeki akademik başarısının arttığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bununla birlikte öğrencilerin örnek olay öğretim yöntemi temelinde hazırlanan uygulamalar ile ilgili görüşleri olumlu bulunmuştur.
In this study, the effect of the case study method on students' academic success in context-based questions was investigated. Exploratory sequential design application, one of the mixed research methods that predominantly includes qualitative data and is supported by quantitative data, was used. The study was conducted with the participation of 6 students studying in the 8th grade in the second semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. At the beginning and end of the research, an academic achievement test consisting of observation, interview and context-based questions was applied to collect data about students' attitudes and skills towards science course. After obtaining preliminary data about the students, case studies originally prepared for the "Material and Industry unit" were applied to the students during an 8-week learning process. Qualitative data were evaluated using the content analysis method. The data were collected in a common pool and themes, sub-themes, codes and frequencies were determined. In the analysis of the quantitative data of the study, the data of the pre-test and post-test groups were analyzed using Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney U methods. As a result of the research in the light of the findings obtained; it has been revealed that science applications carried out with the case study teaching method positively affect academic success on life-based questions. It was concluded that the academic success of students on life-based questions increased with the effect of the case study method. However, students' opinions about the applications prepared based on the case study teaching method were found positive.
