Rumeli Fatihi Osmanlı şehzadesi: Gazi Süleyman Paşa

Abstract

Bu araştırma Süleyman Paşa’nın Rumeli’ye yönelik askerî faaliyetleri ile Rumeli’yi Türkleştirme ve İslâmlaştırma çerçevesinde izlediği yöntemleri tanıtmayı amaçlamaktadır. Süleyman Paşa, Orhan Gazi’nin büyük oğlu olup genç yaşta vefat etmiştir. O, Bizans İmparatorluğu’ndaki taht mücadeleleri ve bölgede meydana gelen şiddetli depremin de etkisiyle savunmasız hale gelen Rumeli’yi, tecrübeli diğer Türk beylerinin de desteğini alarak fethetmişti. Onun, gayrimüslim halka hoşgörüyle davranması, imar faaliyetlerinde bulunması ve çok sayıda Türkmen aileyi bölgeye yerleştirmesi, Rumeli’de Türk-İslâm kültürünün ve Osmanlı hâkimiyetinin oluşması ve gelişmesinde etkili olmuştur.

This study aims to present Sulayman Pasha’s military activities toward Rumelia and the methods he followed to Turkicize and Islamicize the region. Sulayman Pasha was the older son of Orhan Ghazi, the second Ottoman ruler, and died at a young age. He conquered Rumelia, where had become vulnerable by the virtue of fights for the throne in the Byzantine Empire, and the severe earthquake which had occured in the region, by getting support of other experienced Turkish leaders. His tolerant policy 280 toward non-Muslim people, the public works he made, and settlement of a great number of Turkmen families there became very effective in the formation and development of TurkishIslamic culture and Ottoman authority in Rumelia.
