Abstract
Human being has always strived to understand and explain oneself and the world. Philosophy has been the most fundemental instrument for him since the begining of the history. But besides philosophy, art in general and spesifically theatre works have been the most important asistants of human being during this endevour. Theatre works are expanding our knowledge about ourselves and the life, and they also confront us with our innerselves by means of characters of tragedies, such as Macbeth and Hamlet. The words and thoughts of philosophers who have pursued the truths for centuries come to life in tragedies. In this article, two of the eminent tragedies of William Shakespeare: Macbeth and Hamlet tragedies are chosen to display the connection between philosophy and theatre works. In this paper which claimed that theatre works are closely related with the philosophical knowledge about human being and human world, the concept of “will” and “life” will be discussed under the guidance of the works of some philosophers and in the light of the tragic personalities of Macbeth and Hamlet.
