Abstract
In this study, which has an empirical aspect, all philosophy departments in universities in Turkey and faculty members in the context of their relationship with the philosophy program and/or the philosophy science field are the subject. A number of numerical results have been reached by the method of evaluating the data on the “YÖK Akademik”, “YÖK Atlas” websites and the official websites of the universities in a certain time period. The aim of this is to reveal the relationship between the fields of education degrees received by faculty members who are currently in a philosophy program and/or have the philosophy science field at universities in Turkey, with philosophy. Within the access date of this study, there are still a total of 207 universities in our country, both state and foundation, according to the data under the heading "üniversitelerimiz" on the official website of YÖK. Among these 207 universities, there are philosophy departments in a total of 69 universities, including state and foundation universities. 62 of the philosophy departments are at state universities, while 56 of them admit students, 6 of them do not, and 7 philosophy departments are at foundation universities. According to the data of YÖK and the universities, there are a total of 452 faculty members in the "Professor", "Associate Professor" and "Assistant Professor" staff of 69 philosophy departments. As far as can be reached from the sources we mentioned, it has been determined how much the bachelor, master’s and doctorate degrees of these faculty members, in other words, their educational backgrounds are related to philosophy. When the fields of education in which the faculty members of the philosophy department have obtained their bachelor-master’s-doctorate degrees are ranked from the most to the least according to the number of people, philosophy is in the first place, theology is in the second place, philosophy group education is in the third place and sociology is in the fourth place. Since there are 69 philosophy departments and 452 tenured faculty members in philosophy departments, the average number of tenured faculty members per philosophy department is 6.5. The philosophy department with the highest number of tenured faculty members is Istanbul University with 19 people. On the other hand, the number of tenured faculty members in the philosophy science field in various programs or different departments of universities is 116. In order to give an idea, these 116 faculty members who are in the philosophy science field and have a tenure in a program/department other than philosophy were also evaluated. When we look at the non-philosophy departments where the faculty members in the philosophy science field are the most tenured and the number of faculty members in these departments, it is determined that the highest concentration is in the sociology departments with 34 people.
