Abstract
The investigation of EPDM has been completed including the strength determination of the bond between EPDM and the metal specimen, its behavior against the roughness of metal surfaces and the interaction with different types of adhesives. Five different EPDM (having different filling rates), have been subjected to the following measurements; compression, hardness and density. The results of these measurements revealed the most appropriate EPDM. The surface roughness of various metal specimens, which were sandblasted within specific time periods, were interacted with EPDM using various type of adhesives in order to reveal the EPDM strength against metal specimen. It was concluded that the adhesive namely known as Chemosil was found to be the most appropriate for the metal specimens, which had been formed in sandblasting during vulcanization, as such adhesive provided a constant roughness on pre-defined metal specimens during 6 minutes. It was observed that after vulcanization of the sandblasted metal surface over a period of 3 minutes, using the adhesive, Loctite 480, provided the best results.
