Contemporary music teaching methods are acknowledged to be employed both during the preparatory stages of choir instruction and throughout in-class activities. Among these methods, Soundpainting, developed by Walter Thompson in the 1970s, is considered to be a potential inclusion due to its innovative structure based on both individual and group-oriented practices. Building on this perspective, this study aims to evaluate the impact of choir courses incorporating Soundpainting at the undergraduate level on the choral learning outcomes of preservice music teachers. The study was conducted using a mixed methods research design. The study group consisted of students enrolled in the Polyphonic Choir course offered by the Department of Music Education at the Faculty of Education, Bursa Uludağ University, during the 2023–2024 academic year. The quantitative data were collected through a measurement tool developed by the researcher, while the qualitative data were obtained using a semi-structured interview form also prepared by the researcher. The quantitative data obtained from the study were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 26 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) software. The qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis, during which themes and codes were generated. Based on the quantitative findings of the study, it was concluded that choir practices incorporating Soundpainting had a positive impact on the musical, technical, conductor–chorus coordination and choral cohesion skills of pre-service music teachers. In addition, qualitative findings indicated that choir lessons incorporating Soundpainting contributed positively to pre-service music teachers’ skills such as self-confidence, concentration, expressive ability and creativity.
