Abstract
This study was carried on with 49 patients living in the district of BURSA. Pathogenesis and clinical features of acute cholecystitis have been reviewed. The incidence of acute cholecystitis according to the sex and age has shown a parallelism with cholelithiasis. From the beginning of acute cholecystitis, during the first 24 hours, the bile was found to be infected at a rate of % 23 yet it was found totally infected 48 hours later. This determination has given us an impression that the infection develops secondarily after acute cholecystitis and the primary factor is cholelithiasis.
