Bir mefkûre adamının kaleminden Malta

Abstract

Mondros Mütarekesi’nin imzalanmasının ardından İstanbul, İngiliz kuvvetleri tarafından işgal edilmiştir. İngiliz yetkililer kendileri için tehlikeli olduklarını düşündükleri Ziya Gökalp’ın da içinde olduğu bütün aydınları tevkif ederek Malta Adası’na sürgüne göndermişlerdir. Malta’daki sürgün günleri boyunca Gökalp yaşadığı bütün üzüntü, zorluk ve sıkıntıları gizleyerek ailesine umut ve iyimserlik dolu birçok mektup yazmıştır. Mektuplarında Malta’nın tabiatından, tarih ve tarihî mekânlarından bahsetmiş; çevresindeki güzellikleri görerek ve yaşamaya çalışarak sürgün günlerini katlanılabilir bir hale getirmiştir.

Istanbul has been taken over by British Army Troops after the sign of Mondros Armistice. The British Authorities have arrested all the intellectuals one of whom was Ziya Gökalp that they thought dangereous for them and have sent them all into exile to Malta Island. During his exile days in Malta, Gökalp has written lots of letters, full of hope and optimism to his family and has not mentioned about the sorrows, troubles and difficulties he had been experiencing. He has written about the nature, history and historical places of Malta and about his daily life. He has seen the beauties around lived them and bear up his exile in that way.
