Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) is a method of polymer composite processing produced by high-pressure molding which is especially suitable for automotive applications. Main reasons for the preference of SMC usage are chemical resistance, high-quality surface finish, as well as low weight to obtain better mechanical properties compared to other material alternatives. In this research, a new SMC material was developed. This thermoset based SMC had unsaturated polyester matrix on a new developed glass fiber reinforcement material. The Specimens cutting from new SMC plates performed 3-point flexural and tensile tests. According to test results, FEM models of the seat connection element have been generated and analyzed. This process and analyzes results are given in this manuscript.
